Mastodon: Bluesky is Bad, actually Bluesky: Mastodon is Bad, actually It’s like a shit version of West Side Story. how long before a Mastodon user and a Bluesky user fall in love while communicating exclusively over the fedi bridge

Not really: bsky.app/profile/prim... Independently of the "decentralization" debacle, this sort of openness and interoperability is so refreshing after seeing social networks become more and more closed over time.

Did you know Bluesky has built-in RSS feeds? If you add /rss to a profile URL, it will load in any RSS reader. Perfect thing for those of us who have 15 year old gaming keyboards. I should totally add @f4mi.bsky.social to this...

Very cool! thanks for sharing For clarification though - I meant missing out *on the drama*, as a feature not a bug 🫰

Tbh, I don’t see a reason to care either way. They’re ephemeral texts. I’ve changed platforms before, I can again. Looking at things cynically doesn’t tend to help me in any way; it just makes people think my life is sad. I say, “One day at a time. Enjoy what we have in front of us.”

Ok. Good for him? I’m saying it’s a tool. I find a hammer I like, I’ll use it until it doesn’t suit me anymore. Then I’ll find a new hammer. Or maybe a good screwdriver. Certainly nothing I need get overly-attached to.

Boosted on both places. Love both (for a different reason) There will always be fundamentalists. This is just the new Windows vs Linux. Some users just get actual shit done 😂

I tried Mastodon, but despite running Linux I don't have strong opinions on which flavor of Linux is best so Mastodon was kinda useless for me. Most of the people whose posts I wanted to read settled onto Bluesky.

No shade on Mastodon--it's a very cool idea. I just found it a bit clunkier than it needed to be, and sort of ended up feeling like it would never get the critical mass of users it needed to because the whole choosing a server thing was just enough friction to stop people joining

Thanks to @ap.brid.gy, #Mastodon users can be part of the grassroots #Bluesky Movement! Let's be #allies! I'd like to be a dual citizen. My primary residence may be here, with regular visits to (& interaction with) Mastodon. bsky.app/profile/sabi...

"@SabinaKnight@zirk.us If you're focusing on #Bsky, it might be interesting to follow @ ap.brid.gy over there. That opts you in to a service that lets people follow and interact with you there from here." –– a mutual on @joinmastodon.org.web.brid.gy The service sounds perfect!

The difference feels like Bluesky is developed by a team who listen to their users and get the small-but-important things right, while Mastodon is developed by a bunch of techno-tyrants who care about getting the technical details right while completely ignoring how people want to use it.

👆🏻 THIS. I wouldn’t go so far as to say techno-tyrants, but as someone who consults, designs, and develops, there’s push/pull between what might technically be better (what dev wants to build), and what’s practically better (what client will actually use). Bluesky feels like they shift toward UX.

I went this far mostly because I tried contributing to making Mastodon easier to use a couple of years ago and got screamed out of the room for not being technical enough.

OUCH. Well in that case you have insider info so this makes sense. That’s disappointing though… a network needs to have volume to succeed, and if they don’t prioritize accessibility it won’t go anywhere. Unless mass adoption isn’t their goal, in which case carry on I guess. 🤷🏻

both platforms have their problems - silly to see the infighting lol. wish people would just stick to valid criticisms where each platform can improve 🤷‍♀️

Well ... they both are bad, just in different ways: #Bluesky: Add an #EditButton and fix #translate to not open a new tab or window. #Bookmarks would be nice too. #Mastodon: The search function stinks! Only #hashtags are indexed by default. Add #fulltextsearch already.

I used Mastodon for a while before abandoning it for Bluesky. Best decision ever. The chronological-only feed is just bad and very time consuming. The ActivityPub protocol is way too flawed and nothing has improved in years nor ever will.

Meanwhile: IndieWeb: Here we go again, these youngsters making noise, I wonder how long they’ll last this time? Anyone up to document the interesting innovations that they have brought with them? So we can retain some knowledge for the future?
