they're so comically terrified of not just minorities and muslims, but that the future might involve slightly more taxes and something vaguely resembling regulatory accountability for their broadly unchecked wealth accumulation

What's REALLY scary is that he is showing it can be done. No excuses. We could have had universal health care when it became a big talking point in the 90s (you can obviously argue sooner) if the reps had a spine and a real desire to help.

I think the fear is rooted in the understanding that the combination of taxing the wealthy and using the revenue to fund social services is actually incredibly popular both in theory and in practice. God forbid this catches on more broadly.

It’s because Conservatives live via comparison They’re not “winning” unless someone else is losing They’re literally “you can’t have nice things because then my nice things are with less to me”

Surprise surprise that Trump bootlicker and sometime Fox News contributor Liz Peek doesn't like Mamdani and pens a clucking tsk-tsking smeary oh-so-predictable article that pretends that the wildly (and increasingly) popular New York mayor is losing support.

Related: WTH is wrong with The Atlantic lately? Constant attacks on social democrats. My impression is that this is somewhat new, at least in intensity. Latest example of media capture by the oligarchs? They used to be good, not that long ago at all….

It’s super weird to see vested financial interests align so stridently against progressives at the very moment when the population clearly, clearly prefers progressive politicians and policies. Like, maaaybe media’s captured enough to pull that off, but sure feels like the people have spoken.

brunchlords, man they genuinely view progressive reform as a bigger threat to their class and race priorities than fascism

The author is a former partner is a big Wall St firm, says her bio. I expect this is actually more about the surcharge on big-ticket apartments than alleged slights to ethnic groups she may or may not care about.

the Hill never disappoints in carrying water for the lamest, dead-center democrats in Washington. Their fear of Mamdani is funnier and louder than even Fox and the NY Post's.

Their biggest skill is failing to disclose the obvious financial conflicts of interests of their opinion contributors

What the hell is so scary? He says he's gonna do stuff and then he does it. He talks to people and finds out what they need. He cares about his city and the people in it. He's really nice, ffs. (Yes, I know he's not perfect but he's loads better than anyone else)

I like mamdani and this article is profoundly stupid (probably racist as well) but I understand the “preening arrogance” critique. What he ACTUALLY has, though, is Only Child Energy. It doesn’t bother me because he’s doing great work.

Every time they attack him, they show their asses. In this way he’s politically like Trump - he confounds them, they don’t know how to attack him, and they look bad doing it. But he does so with wholesome enthusiasm, vitality, and good policy vs. Trump’s cynical misanthropy, fraud, and corruption.

The other ladies at the New York Women's Auxillary Central Park Conservancy Luncheon will be all a-titter at this scathing review!

It's absolutely insane to write about his supposed arrogance and illustrate it with a picture of him looking like the friendliest "I'm just happy to be here with all of you" dude you could imagine. Feels like they perceive people who look like Mamdani as arrogant just for existing.

They do. As a black man, uppity was the word used to define us if we dared get an education, speak good English, tried to climb the social/cultural/financial ladders, etc.

He's making them all look bad by actually governing for the people. Empty promises are easier than doing the work and most politicians aren't interested in doing the work, they're just interested in getting our money and constant vacations.

The funny thing is that Mamdani, like any politician, will face a real scandal at some point. But these guys are so anxious to attack his popularity that they're blowing their wad prematurely; by the time a real scandal arrives they'll have cried wolf a dozen times and insulated him against it.

If they *really* wanted to hurt him, what they should do is cheer his wins in the interim and express hopes for his success, so that when that scandal arrives they could say "I've been an ardent supporter of the man, but blah blah blah."

The author, Liz Peek, is literally a Republican and Fox News contributor. I’m not sure what “brunchlord establishment” means but have fun posting.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 couldn't agree more with your last statement. She is Monica Crowley plus 20 years. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, this post is weird. Peak isn't a "brunch lady." She's a heritage foundation ultraconservative whose husband has worked for both Trump administrations.

Guess he needs to smile less. Oh wait, but we were told leftists and CNN news reporters need to smile more. His ability to actually deliver what he promised will be the death of him, I guess. Also, if I had his skills, I would probably be a bit arrogant.

I guess I don’t understand what “brunchlord” is meant to imply because I would guess there is a ton of overlap between Mamdani voters and people who carried “If you voted for Kamala we’d all be a brunch” protest signs. Meanwhile, the author (Liz Peek), does not seem to embody brunchiness.

In my experience, there's brunch (casual day drinking with lib friends at a normal pub or restaurant; the good kind) and *brunch* (dressed up like 80s movie villains with other out of touch elites who talk about each other as soon as one leaves the table; the bad kind)

It's as though they watch him work for the citizens of the city and his success helping them and say, oh shit, we've got to stop this before they get used to it. RELEASE THE UNREDACTED EPSTEIN FILES

"Preening arrogance". Wonder if they've used those words to describe Trump, Miller, Vought, Musk, Hegseth or a zillion other options I could tick through before I got to Mamdani ... the knives are out and, trust me, not all of them are R's.

anyone else noticed that articles about him are getting language that I would say is more and more “Palpatine”. Like read this headline in his voice from episode three. Fits right in.

Wonder how many times The Hill has spoken of Donald Trump's "preening arrogance". Another media outlet that started out with good intent, but I no longer read because it went to shit.

The complaint here is that Mamdani hasn't tried to "broaden his base." His popularity has risen steadily, and he's more popular with American Jews than Netanyahu. I think the "arrogance" is that he dares to make good on his campaign promises.

Meanwhile Top-Z just is just tomahawk dunking TF out of these irrelevant clowns. They can die mad.

BREAKING: Zohran Mamdani announces click-to-cancel rule for NYC. This rule is aimed at guaranteeing New Yorkers can cancel subscriptions as easily as they sign up — and stopping corporations from trapping customers. This will save New Yorkers up to $162.5 million per year.

This is the most "Look at that bitch eating crackers" headline on Mamdani I've yet seen, and that's really saying something.

This is really telling. They will move heaven and earth to ensure that there is not one single solitary person in the political sphere who is both capable and not on the take. All it takes is one none-rotten egg to ruin it for the rest of them.

It's not like he arrogantly stated "The Islamic Republic of Japan." The face of capitalism probably raped 13-year-olds (Trump is currently giving a convicted child sex trafficker, Maxwell, VIP treatment). The Marie Antoinette class: "Let them drink $50 per gallon gasoline."
