"What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all." - Valery Legasov, "Chernobyl"

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

extremely weird shit during the Jack Smith hearing -- Sen. Eric Schmitt's team briefly displays a poster board that Schmitt claims contains evidence Smith committed perjury, but then Schmitt's team takes it down before anybody can read it and refuses to show Smith what it says

You wouldn't know it from reading the headlines, but the president's downward mental health spiral is the biggest story in America right now We won't salvage democracy unless the media and pols start speaking the truth about Trump's damaged mind My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/trum...

inquirer.comWe need to find the words for Trump’s madness before things blow up | Will BunchThe media and politicians haven’t pinned down anything resembling a suitable description for a president’s downward spiral or the looming battle for U.S. democracy.

Just saw a TV commercial for Republican Senate candidate John Sununu that was just "OMG THE DEMOCRAT (sic) PARTY IS THE SOCIALISM PARTY AND IT'S SO TERRIFYING AAAIIIEEEE!!" 🙄😂

It may be the preseason, but the "SHOOT IT!" guy in our section at the Thunderbirds game is in mid-season form. 😖

With the midterm elections shaping up to be a massive reckoning for the Republican Party, it's worth remembering that they had a fairly easy offramp from Trumpism in the immediate aftermath of the January 6th riot but they completely chickened out.

Aaaaand, y'know ... As SoS Hillary Clinton authorized 'stated gender' passports for State Dept trans persons. As POTUS Joe Biden had trans spokepeople on the WH lawn for Pride Day celebrations. Took 💩 for it when one wouldn't keep her top on, too. We had a trans keynote speaker at the '24 DNC

We're never getting out of the Iran War with Susan Collins and her husband profiting off it. She voted five times against resolutions that could have ended the war. Vote her out.

I am still furious about this, so let's go: my abortion story aka why I am not dead yet. I intentionally got pregnant in 2015. I was so excited to be a mom, took extra care with nutrition and safety (I had a heavy-duty job at the time). Normal first-trimester nausea and tiredness, nothing crazy.

ProPublica@propublica.org

NEW: Our analysis found that from 2020 to 2025, the rate of deaths involving ectopic pregnancies nearly doubled compared with the previous six-year period. The uptick was steeper in states with abortion bans.

At the risk of starting Discourse, this media dynamic is exactly how the myth of "Dems made Tim Walz stop calling the GOP weird" got accepted as ironclad fact.

A penitent who is loud @loudpenitent.bsky.social

"well Dems are actually betraying us-" you think that because there is a constant tide of coverage of dipshit nobody "strategists" always trying to make the great left-punching Fetch happen, not because there is an actual surge of treachery from the majority of Dems in office.

WIN: We secured a court order temporarily blocking Donald Trump's USPS from restricting vote-by-mail ahead of the election. This victory protects mail voting and lets elections go on as planned while we fight to block this unlawful election interference. Massachusetts will always defend democracy.

Bay Area friends: A friend found these small kittens behind a gas station and we've been trying to find them a home for almost two months. For now, they live in a small bathroom. Would you consider adopting? They are vaxxed, neutered, and incredibly affectionate. Please help!
