It is my opinion that it is actually quite easy to find good new music, and the only thing you really need is a sincere intention to seek out new music, and a willingness to listen to new music when it is recommended to you.

Both "Wild Pink" and "Slow Pulp" are bands I learned about in the past week, and I'm enjoying their music quite a bit. Check 'em out!

Slow Pulp is definitely not comparable to Wild Pink, but they're both great. Give 'em a shot. Separately, have you listened to Deer Tick or The Beths? Two other bands in my regular rotation that are different, but might be up your alley.

I'm in KW and I've already got tickets for Wild Pink 😁 but I appreciate the heads up. They're great live. I saw em last time they were in Toronto, at the monarch tavern. Very good show.

I think a lot of people like ***the abstract idea*** of discovering new music. But when they actually have the choice to listen to the entire corpus of recorded music, they default back to the familiar shit. If you want new things, you have to be willing to try new things!

I think there's nothing wrong with sticking with what you know! I just think that people complain that it's hard to find new music, when the main impediment is their disinclination to affirmatively choose to listen to new music.

I also like the idea of “new to me.” A few years ago I got really interested in 1960s French “ye-ye” music. Francoise Hardy, Sylvia Vartan, etc. Linear time and release dates are limiting constructs in music appreciation.

Some good ways to discover new music: - Polaris Prize shortlist - Scan the lineup of music festivals - The YouTube Music algo is not bad - Random posts on Bluesky and blogs - Ask your friends and coworkers what they like

It sure is! I'm just saying that for me, it routinely recommends new albums that are in line with my taste. I don't know about Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal or whatever. But I like YT Music pretty well.

Another big one find critics who recommend stuff you tend to like and follow their recommendations. I have found a lot of stuff I really like from Steven Hyden recommendations going back to his writing for Grantland.
