Maybe this makes me a bad journalist but I’m coming around to the idea that we should just tell everyone the results once everything is counted the next day
Quick reminder: As of right now, the result of the election is locked in. Politicians don't "pull ahead" or "catch up." It's just the arbitrary way that the ballots are counted and reported.
From the outside, I have all the markings and credentials of a person who should “fit” in academia (for better or worse). But there’s a little Bourdieu who sits on my shoulder and whispers “habitus” and “your Dad was a high school drop-out truck-driver” at all the wrong times.

I remember the first time I realized there might be an issue. I was in @stuartgwhite.bsky.social’s excellent seminar on Marxism. We were discussing how to define class. And it struck me that most of my peers had never actually spent time with truck drivers, millwrights and small appliance repairmen.

“SpaceX, whose Falcon 9 medium-lift rockets have been the workhorses of private orbital launches, has stopped taking new Falcon 9 bookings beyond 2028. The Elon Musk-led company plans to replace them with its next-generation Starship rockets, which keep exploding.” thelogic.co/news/canada-...
“The defense department has now granted SpaceX access to its most precise data on potential collisions among satellites and other space objects, which will give Musk’s companies an advantage over competition that offers a similar service.” www.theguardian.com/science/2026...
Every morning I cross a road where drivers run the red. So I wait until I’m sure cars are stopped before I cross. The pause prompts drivers - waiting to turn right - to honk at me. There’s no way for pedestrians to behave that will make car-brained Ottawa drivers happy. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Thinking about starting a little organization that brings together people who want to read and discuss some old and new books and articles once a week to learn something about the human condition, how to navigate the world, and maybe pick up a few critical skills and relationships along the way.

I wrote a report for a prominent think tank 15 years ago on the transportation challenges facing an aging population who can no longer drive (or shouldn’t be driving) in places built for cars. The response was a mix of “meh, whaddya gonna do” and “why the war on cars, Munro?”
Literally every demographer for two generations: it's gonna be rough when the boomers get past 70, everyone get ready Ontario:
Turns out my report is still up. Click here for old data and recommendations that got shelved before the ink dried. www.signal49.ca/product/mana...

It would be grand, then, if the Government of Canada would terminate any use of X/Twitter. And don't say, "Oh, we need it to get our messages out," because then you are "caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider."
Mark Carney on what Elon Musk's throttling of Starlink means for Canada: "We do not want to be caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider that puts Canadians at risk or compromises our sovereignty, our ability to express our values and live our values."

Is it “election interference” to call Trump an asshole? Asking for a me.
Susan Collins is falsely claiming she's won tariff exemptions, and media outlets are letting her get away with it. In fact, the admin is swapping some 50% tariffs for other 50% tariffs, as they did when they swapped out road salt. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

And what happens two weeks *after* the midterms?
Maine Senator Susan Collins says she has successfully lobbied the Trump administration to drop tariffs on nine categories of Canadian products less than two weeks before midterm elections, @adrianmorrow.bsky.social reports: www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/art...
