Good. Dealerships and their backhanded tactics have made purchasing a car one of the most dreaded experiences in the American Zeitgeist for decades. Dealers should be scared of solutions that make them look bad

The problem with the dealerships is they don’t let you look. They start closing on the first car you see with cheap salesman tactics. They need to clearly price the car with best available price, let people sit in the car and stop paying everyone on commission.

Why are buyers afraid of dealerships? It’s easy to buy from them. Research and know what you are willing to pay. Stick to that number no matter what. Walk out if they don’t accept. If your offer is realistic, they will come running after you. Duh.

Car dealers are similar to the political predators members of the Trump Administration. They lure voters into debt and for voting against their self interest by grossly over-promising what can be done. Then they blame bad media for their own failures.

Dealerships are the unfortunate beneficiary of state laws protecting their business model against direct sales in most of the states they operate in so until that changes (and car dealers stop getting into politics, especially douches like Moreno) we'll still be dealing with them.

Who could have predicted that treating consumers like crap by trying to screw them on financing and charging high prices for service would cause people to pursue alternative buying options???

Online research. Call and email dealers in the area. Negotiate as much of the deal over the phone. Then, step foot into the dealer. Don’t take anything personal. Say “no” to the finance guy. Say “no” to add ons. Drive off with your new car.

I recently had a Honda dealership tell me I was too stupid to understand car financing when I asked them to explain how they came up with the taxes because my numbers were different. “You aren’t calculating the tax you have to pay on your cash down payment” We were 4000 off on a Honda Civic

Permaplate, Ziebart, Carshield, AVP., et al that exist to provide overpriced add ons to dealers will fail also. They know they provide no value. Thats why they are constantly lobbying to support current franchise laws and resist direct purchase. This can’t happen soon enough.

Not even manufacturers, just local politicans. Manufacturer are literally forbidden from directly selling to you at lower cost by law. They're required to sell to a dealership that then marks it up for their own profit. Somehow that was considered "consumer protection".

The dealers also gate keep access to warranty support and other things. We had to sue Volkswagen because the dealer told them we broke some shit and we didn't and VW just took the dealer's word for it. Its a total mess.

Imported vehicles will not be able to operate as direct purchase unless people suddenly become cool with waiting several weeks to a month to receive their ordered vehicle. The reason Tesla sells in 3 colors and no options is so they can fill lots full of cars and ship one where it’s ordered.

I despise dealers, it takes 4-5 hours minimum to purchase a car. Total BS when I can go buy one from a person, 30 minutes to buy the car, then 1 hour tops to get it put in my name, with tags.

Tesla did that and after their installed base of customers got larger they realized those boutique stores didn’t have room to deal with repairs or enough space to store inventory. So now they have storage lots and repair facilities. I wonder if 3 separate locations really saves them that much?

I have one of the first hybrid avalons. My car is 14 years old and the car battery went flat today- no other mechanical issues. 300 dollars and hopefully another 14 years. I won’t buy another car until Toyota makes an electric sedan-Americans don’t love gas guzzling SUVs-car makers just think we do.
