The Flash director Andy Muschietti has said his DC Extended Universe film failed at the box office because "a lot of people just don’t care about the Flash as a character." bit.ly/4gLko34

Yeah, a lot of people don't care about the Flash as a character ever since that movie. He just got the causality reversed. Otherwise, Guardians of the Galaxy and Creature Commandos would be duds. All those characters were barely known before they made it on screen.

Or it was the casting or it was the fact that there is a very fine tv series of the same character that this thing could never live up too, or it’s the fact that you felt the need to make Batman the draw in your film or add alternate viable reason her instead of that nonsense from the director

I’m so disappointed that film execs almost never learn the right lessons. Goddamn it all I want is a good Barry Allen Flash movie one day!

I watched it opening weekend because the movie was being hyped up as a last hurrah to the Synderverse before James Gunn's DCU. It was.... okay. I found it entertaining and enjoyed Sasha Calle's Supergirl and Keaton's Batman, but the rush of gratuitous cameos at the end was too much for me.

Not to mention that the Flashpoint plot was already done plenty of times. I'm not a comic book fan, but that movie must have been at least the third version of Flashpoint I've seen.

A lot of D.C. movies aren’t good. They do get the occasional great ones. A lot of Marvel movies aren’t bad. They do get the occasional awful one. I didn’t see much promotional work for The Flash so I had zero interest in it. Still won’t bother with it.

lol jokes on him. Flash is one of my favorite DC heroes. Dceu just ain’t great and they force fed the most problematic actor down our throats…not to mention that laughably awful cgi. The movie was held together by cameos imo. Like the flash tv casted better and had better cgi.

People at least knew who he was, but may not have cared much, but it was your job as a director to make people care. People didn’t care about the Guardians of the Galaxy, people didn’t even know who they were, but James Gunn got people to care.

“Four quadrants” has to be the dumbest term I’ve ever heard when it’s literally just describing everyone on the planet. Here I am thinking it’s gonna be like “males 16-40, females 20-40, casual movie watchers, film bros”. 😂

As someone who watched it, only once it was on Netflix. That wasn't the issue. The problem really truly was the team behind it not believing they could make a Flash movie without it actually being a Batman movie.

It’s blaming the character and the fans for a poorly behaved actor and a crappy director. The VFX in that movie are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Not to mention more “evil speedster” garbage, which was exhausted by the TV show. But sure, let’s blame the fictional character.

The Michael Keaton stuff works. Supergirl was pretty okay. Ezra was impossible to watch. The tone was off. The movie was just mean/hateful. And the special effects were unfinished. Director Andy Muschietti absolutely failed to make a watchable film. Batgirl would have done WAY better boxoffice.

We TOLD them all that we wanted a recast because Ezra stinks like week-old fish. They didn't listen. This is like the director putting his hand on a hot stove and being mad when it burned him after we said 'hey, fire hurts'.

There were about 50 reasons it flopped, not one of them having to do with Flash. From the snubbing of Grant Gustin, to a lead that couldn’t do press, to the fact that companies like WB and Sony want to adapt comic stories that hinge on having established characters and worlds.

It’s interesting that he’s still scheduled to do The Brave and the Bold. And damn, I can’t wait to see what the new DCU does with the flash because I love the character.

If an R-rated, foul-mouthed, horny Deadpool movie could succeed in 2016 and make 782 million dollars when the only live-action appearance of the character at that point was universally despised, this could have easily been a hit in the same way... If only it wasn't, y'know, terrible.

So it wasn't that that collection of DC movies, except for a couple, was awful. Or that the main actor was a creep. Or that they tried to shove nostalgia down people's throats. Or that it looked bad. It was the audience's fault.

For me personally I didn't watch or support it after all the allegations and then confirmed actions I heard about Ezra. I love Flash as a character and would be amazing to have him appear in some capacity again. The flash was always the comic relief in DCU which helped to balance the dark setting.

Or…and hear me out - it could be that for the last 20+ years the Marvel/DC character movies have been injected in our brains so much that we don’t care about the universes in a movie setting anymore.

This Flash? Yes. Also, the Ant-Man movies are fun and Paul Rudd is charming as Scott. He makes us actually care about the guy. Ezra? I don’t know this Barry Allen. And finally, when you’re a grownup, you realize you can care about more than one thing at a time, like both Ant-Man & The Flash.

Bullshit. 'Nobody' (*cough* mainstream viewers) cared or even knew about Guardians of the Galaxy either, let alone probably half of the characters in the earliest days of the MCU, but they made it work.

If the MCU had started with Infinity Wars, everyone would have been like, "Who are all these people?" Flashpoint was the wrong story to start with, the wrong way to get to know the Flash.

That’s crazy. Flash is a popular character. Also, the movie was actually good. Just a lot of haters. Only real issues was some subpar cgi scenes and the lead actor being not good guy in the real world. Otherwise the story was solid, Keaton back at Batman, solid alternate world Kara, and good ending

I mean, could it be lead actor was surrounded in controversy at the time and was completely unapologetic about it and on top of the movie not looking very good that made people not even give it the benefit of the doubt?

Can Muschetti explain how much people “didn’t care” about Barry Allen/The Flash played by Grant Gustin for, what was it, *7 Years* and the show even had a proper Finale? The problem wasn’t The Flash. The problem was who was playing him in the movies.

He's right. Here's why: 1. The general audience largely doesn't know or care about Ezra Miller. 2. You can't call a movie bad unless you've actually seen it, unless you let critics and bloggers control your brain. 3. The Flash is a Tier 3 or 4 superhero if he's lucky. Deal with it. 🤷‍♂️

It failed because it was a movie in a dead universe with a main actor that no one liked and was in a heap of legal problems..... I only watched it when it came to streaming because of the return of Keatons Batman.

Don't have a problem with Flash character, the TV series was good, apart from time travel stuff which was confusing and unneccesary. The film had one major flaw though, this also ruined Justice League too, it was the actor chosen to play the Flash. He was unlikeable even before all the problems!

I feel like this guy has been in therapy since the movie came out and his therapist got tired of saying: Maybe it wasnt a good movie? and instead had to help the director figure out something else to blame it on.

"I’ve found in private conversations that a lot of people just don’t care about the Flash as a character. Particularly the two female quadrants. All of that is just the wind going against the film I’ve learned." That is bullshit the love story between Barry and Iris is a classic.

There is a MANY seasoned show on the CW about the Flash. The problem was Ezra Miller and all his bullshit. I used to really like DC but I wasn’t gonna see a movie where the lead has also starred in a video where he drunkenly chokes a young woman to the ground.

Miller aside, there was 0 reason to care about that version of the Flash. He wasn’t even the 4th most important character in JL, and if there had been any planning, Flashpoint would have been the 3rd movie in a series of Flash movies. It’s not a tough formula to figure out.

I think it’s really sad how so many people profoundly lack the faintest glimmer of self-awareness. If you ever find yourself blaming/accusing everyone else for/of something, there’s a 99% chance that you are actually the one in the wrong.

I don’t care about Mark Zuckerberg but that didn’t stop someone from making a compelling movie about him. Flash didn’t set the critical world ablaze. It’s not like it garnered positive reviews with a poor box office.

The Flash TV show ran for 9 seasons, along with multiple cross overs with other CW shows. It outlasted the original Arrowverse show, Arrow, which ran for 8 seasons. Ironically, it also featured a cross over cameo from Ezra Miller (pictured).

Man.. some of the egos of these directors.. Rather than owning up to his failure, he just decided that a founding member of the justice league isn't an interersting character. And Gunn made a good movie out of b tier characters like guardians of the galaxy.

Yeah, a character that had their own live action tv show for 7 seasons. Not popular at all. Not because the version they pushed for this movie was an annoying side character in another flop movie. And then they added another more annoying version of him into the plot.

1) Ezra Miller is horrible (worst superhero casting of all time, no question) 2) It was tied up in further multiverse bullshit when you had a character that would benefit from a more straightforward origin 3) Snyder-verse is trash and no one wanted more of it 4) Eat shit, Muschietti

Also, you know who no one really cared about? Guardians of the Galaxy. But a good director came along and made people care. Setting aside how blatantly stupid it is to say no one cares about the Flash, good filmmakers can still pull off successful, good movies. What a hack.

Idk if they could. If not wanting to watch a movie with a main character played by an absolute psychopath of an actor is woke, then I'm woke as fuck. I think at some point when your list of horrid activities as an actor become long enough it just breaks the immersion to see you on screen, you know?

Awful writing, directing, and production aside, it also got tainted by Ezra Miller being in the middle of numerous legal issues and they still finished it. But they killed the Batgirl movie being made at the same time because it supposedly tested poorly.

I didn't watch it because I saw Ezra Miller's dull performance in Justice League, read all the allegations about them, and decided to wait till Barry Allen was inevitably recast in the DCU instead.
