My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Okay, the wheels are already turning, and I can see that this thread is going to account for a nice chunk of my day today, or rather, what I do with this thread.

One of my favorite things to do, which I don't often get to do, is running a battery around how you see yourself and where you'd place yourself relative to other roles and separately, how you think OTHER people see you and categorize you! Tricks from the social identity literature in psych!

Marissa Meyer is a really mid-executive. There, I said it. But she has historically surrounded herself with good PR people that can keep her name on our minds. So she hasn't really done anything. Again. But here we are talking about her. Again.

What happens when one person can do work that used to cross three departments? And if we stop hiring beginners, where do future experts come from? I explore both in โ€œYour Job, Rewritten.โ€ How AI at work is changing whole job families and team structures.

groktop.usYour Job, RewrittenAI is widening jobs and changing who employers need. The companies building it offer an early view of shifting teams, hiring and the path to gaining experience.

I love(d) Hermes Agent but TBH it's not been aging well for me. A lot of the scheduled jobs I've set up for it start falling apart when python updates happen. And it seems helpless to repair itself when it runs into this. Curious what open source AI agents are up and coming next gen.

No matter how much I try to say "show less like this" on my Discover feed, Bluesky rams political memes down my throat. As if this is all anyone can talk about. I know there's got to be more than meemaw meme monsters on this site.

In this article, I explore the intersection between consumers who use AI agents to reverse engineer and reclaim their smart TV sets and how the big AI labs are starting to take drastic actions (including shutting down accounts of people who do this). What is the impact, and what can we do about it?

magnus919.comLet Me Own ItAI agents helped me reclaim my Fire Stick. Consumers deserve control over those agents, too: accountable human review and practical local alternatives.

I've been interviewing for this one job for like a month now. Flew across the country for the final interview this week. Was told to expect final answer today. It's now after 11pm. I don't think I'm getting that final answer today, am I?

Due to job loss, I had to shift to a marketplace insurance plan. I've been without mental health meds for a couple of months and just this week got my prior auth appeal approved. Now I can have my meds again, but it's going to cost over $560 for a one-month supply.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

I'm not into AI and never use it, but I am gradually finding myself becoming negatively polarized into thinking it's basically fine, purely by virtue of the rabidly anti-AI glonzo types being so weird and annoying about it.

When I was laid off from my previous job, I thought I wouldn't be getting back to Denver for a while, but it's only been six months, and here I am, back in town, but for an entirely new chapter. Wish me luck.

If you like the idea of Jev but want a self-hosted option, here's a free & open source project I've started contributing to. This lets you host the Laya model, and currently presents a Jev-shaped API contract. I'm working with the maintainer on offering more native Laya-shaped endpoints, also.

I keep hearing people asking what happens to software engineering when AI is writing and reviewing code. I don't pretend to have all of the answers. But I believe that humans remain critical, even if we have to roll with substantial career path changes.
