Apparently it has an AI fact checker that is so strict, it automatically bans people from posting. (For saying “yesterday” for something more than 24 hours old, as an example).
I don’t think Bluesky is perfect or anything, but how is this different from Bluesky? The whole attraction to Twitter was “everyone you care about is there.”
I don't know that we'll ever have that kind of global public square again. My extremely scientific prediction is that we're entering an era of persistent fragmentation. All the kids are on various Discords or watching short-form video.
but I’ll add this caveat, the “kids” were never on Twitter. What made Twitter special, even its heyday, was how it warped your mind into believing “this is where everyone hangs out.” It was always the place where seemingly important people hung out but we still missed a ton.
Stephen Coates is partially behind this who is fighting the Twitter trademark battle with X after he was original Twitters trademark and IP counsel or something like that. Get the popcorn because the legal battle behind the trademark is already in full swing.
I'll forever be amazed at taking a globally known brand like Twitter and just...ditching the whole thing. I know the man ruins everything, but that's a historical level of brand fuck up.
Truly - it had basically become the genericide trademark for posting. Would google change their name due to ownership change? Hell no! Its so ubiquitous you'd have to be a fool to think otherwise
They claim they're involved in a lawsuit with X for this very purpose--the claim being that X has abandoned the Twitter branding, from what I understand.
So is this like a public co op model or something? Is moderation shared by the public? Is there revenue sharing or something? What makes this "public?"
sorry if it was worded weirdly. sadly, i found people who fell for scams like this before 😔 it's mostly those who cannot recognize the vibecoding or how odd the premise behind the idea is.
