Some context around this, from a markets person. Historically in LatAm, leftist victories have led to sharp losses over the ~3 months after an election where the left wins. Stocks also typically underperformed into those victories. But 3y post-election, returns for leftists have been *higher*.

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Donald Trump promised to defeat inflation, bring down prices, and reignite explosive economic growth in 2024. The reality? Inflation is still rising, costs are too high, and instead of you feeling the “Golden Age,” only the well-connected are.

nbcnews.comTrump promised $2 gas and cheaper groceries. Here’s what voters got instead.Analysis: President Donald Trump delivered on his 2024 pledges of tax cuts and higher tariffs, but the war with Iran raised gas prices, and the cost of living remains stubbornly high.
