The CHAPBOOK COLLECTION is a set of chapbooks featuring my short stories and novellas, all at 99c on Kindle, and is kind of a historical archive of my writing over the past 30+ years. Something here for everybody... mybook.to/hsi

Mary Poppins, with my mum, somewhere around Christmas in 1964 in our local cinema in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, aged 6. I liked the dancing penguins...

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

Some parts of Newfoundland getting their first snow of the season today. Just high winds and cold drizzle for us in Bonavista so far, but Winter is coming...

Witkoff calling Putin a humanitarian is one of the most disgusting acts of arse licking in a long history of such acts by the Trump administration. Putin's a fucking murdering dictator and war criminal, and should be getting treated as such, not fawned over by cunts with no moral compass.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

A saiiing yacht and the hire of a small crew for it to take me and Mrs Meikle around the world in style for a couple of years...

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

"Fuckwit, fuckwit, fuckwit, fuckwit. If you're in doubt about any Trump supporter's name, just say Fuckwit. You have a 100% chance."

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "You have Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed. Everybody is basically. If you're in doubt about somebody's name from the Middle East, just say 'Mohammed.' You have about a 65% chance."

Test results are in... the black area in my right lung is definitely cancerous. Surgery coming up for me in the next few weeks, to take out most of my lower right lobe. So here we go again, Willie vs Cancer, round 3... I keep knocking it down and it keeps getting back up.

You've go to love the youngsters... they can't conceive that there were no computers when I was growing up, at least, none that could fit into a house. Didn't get my first home PC until I was in my late twenties in about 1986. The 'disk drive' was a cassette tape. Internet didn't come till 1996.

The old internet@theoldinternet.bsky.social

What was your first computer growing up?

My Inspector Lestrade collection is doing well on Kindle UK in the "Cosmic and Eldritch horror" category. And I do love little juxtapositions like this... just ahead of one of my favorite books.

Impressed that I've managed to become a full time writer (and house owner) living on the other side of the Atlantic from where I was then. Disappointed that I didn't make the grade as a scientist and ended up spending 25 years in corporate IT working for 'the man' before the writing took off.

Getting Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" vibes from this thing...

Pope Leo XIV has been gifted a massive green orb and honestly not now massive green orb

"If I spend $500 shopping for groceries a month, and I say, 'I'm not going to eat anymore,' I don't lose $500 a month. It's very simple. Right?"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "If we lose $50 billion a year with a country, and we say 'we're not going to trade with you anymore,' we don't lose $50 billion a year. It's very simple. Right?"

Concentrating on the house move has kept my mind off the comeback of my cancer for a bit, but I had the most godawful hospital-based nightmare last night that woke me up in a cold sweat. Far more gory and grim than I ever get in my writing but it might make its way into a story sometime...

Just seen the TOC for the forthcoming NORTH OF FEAR antho from Lividian. I'm in there alongside some great Canadian writers... one of whom is Charles De Lint... I'm just a wee bit starstruck at hearing that #booksky

"Fuck the UK Film, TV, Music and Publishing industries... they bring no value to the country." ... says a fucking Philistine without a clue. What a wanker.

A cheery message from the new minister responsible for research funding for the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences (and the subjects that the majority of UK taught undergraduate and Masters students study).

One thing I'd like to see before the end of my writing career is to have a "Best Of" collection published. The hard part is persuading a publisher to take it on, but I remain hopeful I'll get there someday.

Can only be a matter of time now before he gets them all to drink the Kool-Aid

"Please right your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in history that loves us so much he can't even breathe" -- in extremely culty scene, Trump has his supporters pledge to him that they will vote, then tells them they will "go to hell" if they don't Here's the full sequence:

The USA midterms are going to show us once and for all exactly how many gullible suckers there are in the USA. $5000 for every adult? He's hiding it up his arse with every other check he's ever promised.

Trump just casually disrespecting everybody who actually died on, or experienced first hand the events of 9/11. The lying bastard was nowhere near the site that day... that's been shown to be fact on numerous occassions. The US media stays silent. That makes them liars too... no change there then.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."

If this had applied when I was a lad, I'd have missed out on teenage me discovering the likes of Raymond Chandler, Len Deighton, Michael Moorcock, John Le Carre, Agatha Christie, a great many 'classics' and a whole host of other writers. Censoring kids' reading is not a sign of a healthy society.

Jesus Christ: after a recent ruling by the Eighth Circuit that allowed Act 372 to take effect, an Arkansas county has banned all children from checking out any books in the adult section, bringing home any DVDs, or using the self-checkout kiosk in its public libraries.
