Getting started shortly! Come on over!

Before he was building cloud infrastructure for geospatial data, Henry Rodman was trying to find the right datasets as a forest scientist. That experience still shapes his work today. Get to know Henry in the latest Behind the Tech 👇 developmentseed.org/blog/2026-0... #Geospatial #OpenData

For a bit, we thought the optics were messed up on the viewer but it turns out that the eye pieces weren't in there. They were on the table behind us. 🤦

If you're interested in seeing it in person, I'll be doing a Map Room tour on Oct. 2nd from 10:00-12:00 with one of our librarians. I also have the room open on Tuesdays from 1:00-3:00 (and by appointment).

This campus map had a note that it can't be cataloged because it has no date. Challenge accepted! It's probably from 1950. It took me, @wildintellect.com , and my intern 20 minutes using building dates. Don't freak out about the sticky notes. The map is encapsulated in milar.

@abridgedpbskvie.bsky.social I'm honestly a little disappointed in your recent article on youth Australian Rules Football in Sacramento. Didn't mention it's a contact sport with full tackling at age 10. Some important unbiased information for parents was left out. play.afl/sites/defaul...

Zines are a great tool for science communication. Earlier this year, I put one together with @kiricarini.com of @developmentseed.org. The zine provides a visually interesting jumping off point for folks learning cloud-native geospatial data!

I submitted this design to the @foss4gna.bsky.social design contest. (We're having a hootenanny instead of the traditional gala this year because we're not really gala people.) Don't you want this as a sticker? You can submit a design too! www.foss4gna.org/contest #gischat

The video of this is deeply unsettling!!!! This weekend is gonna be a big bad moment I think!!!!!

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. To understand Los Angeles today, we must remember LA Times reporter Ruben Salazar. In 1970, LASD shot and killed Salazar with a tear gas canister while he was covering protests. So-called "less lethal" munition. Salazar was on break inside a bar.

Bluesky uploads are extremely slow on scene, so @melbuer.bsky.social has taken over this account to help share video from a better internet connection. Brush planted in the street dividers has been caught on fire due to stun grenades thrown by federal authorities in Paramount, CA.

Random thought for #gischat: what should be the mass noun for geospatial people? There's a murder of crows and a business of ferrets. But what's a group of geo people?

Want to help #gdal, rasterio, and packages that use either of those? If you have github action skills, maybe you could help fix the rasterio action that tests rasterio with GDAL at head? github.com/OSGeo/gdal/i...
