@vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu seems to be a "normal" Bluesky/Atmosphere account, that happens to be on the W social PDS: wdonthavetime.tngl.io/wsocial-wned...
Asking for verification of all social media accounts is stupid anyway, but doing so with such a blatant double standard is bold!
First up:
W Don't Have Time @wdonthavetime.selfhosted.social published a deep dive this morning revealing how "Just 18 unverified VIP accounts produce more than half of all #WSocial content"
🔗: wdonthavetime.offprint.app/a/3my2tecrxk...
My face today, since reading it: 🤯
#WSocialFacts
We Tricked you: The answer is just 18 users!
@wsocial.eu says users must be verified before posting, yet 18 of the top 25 posters aren't verified and created half of all content on W (+250k posts). Find out which VIPs can post on #WSocial without verification!

We have a joke for you.
How many users does it take to prop up a social network?
100?
1,000?
10,000?

Watching the #WSocial drama this week was entertaining, but it's a reminder: secure online identity is still unsolved, and we need it.
My two cents: this isn't a job for companies to build or run. Innovation moves fast in private hands, but speed isn't what matters here. Trust does.
Today has been just a Whirlwind of #WSocial drama. To help you stay on top of all the WTFs, we made a handy Watchdog feed that you can pin and enjoy wherever you get your skeets.

Was "somehow" transparent.
As far I understand:
Tech: W Social is a product that encloses open commons—taking open code and turning it into closed source, with a proprietary identity gate placed in front.
Eurosky/Mu keep the standard open. W Social’s proprietary value proposition relies
I'd argue that they should have run a tender with rules and deadlines if they want it hosted externally, but that's just details.
The bottomline is the missing transparency in the decision making.
Open protocols are supposed to create choice.
But choice needs transparency.
The European Ombudsman has opened an inquiry into how the Commission selected its AT Protocol platform.
Public institutions should be able to explain their decisions.
That’s good for everyone in the ecosystem.
UPDATE: W Social and the European Commission.
The Commission moved its AT Protocol presence to WSocial with no public criteria published. The Ombudsman said that needs explanation: what criteria, and how were they assessed across platforms?

Und warum? Auszuege aus dem EU-Lobbyregister zeigen Treffen, in denen es u.a. um eine ID-Verifizierungs Infrastruktur in der EU geht.
Bitte teilt diese Recherche. Danke 🙏

Dear #WSocial verified users, who had your account verified after 16-09-2026: if you are not comfortable with your full name, nationality and approx. age being shared *outside* of W, on the open web, please DO NOT delete your account. You need to file a proper right of deletion request instead
#GDPR
@wsocial.eu@anna.wsocial.eu I’m not happy that my approximate date of birth and nationality can be read by anyone in my W Social verification record. Please explain your legal basis for publishing it, and delete it. #WsocialFacts#GDPR
@palle.eurosky.social just published a powerful exposé about the #WSocial "it's not a leak if we intentionally publish it" ID data controversy.
I highly recommend you read it (it's in German, but you could use your browser's translation tool): www.metacheles.de/w-social-dat...#WIdentity#GDPR
A waitlist survey tells you what users wanted. It is not a legal basis, it is not consent, and it binds nobody who verified in September. Any verified user can put all of the above to IMY in Sweden or their own data protection authority. That's Art. 77.
Keep us accountable by double-checking our homework. Inspect our code hosted on @tangled.org . Verify our results. Make suggestions for improvements via pull requests.
This is a community effort.
Scripts for observing public data on the W Social PDS, pds.wsocial.network. They only read what the server already makes public, and none of them need a login.

We've been doing social media analytics for well over a decade, no other social media platform provided public age data per account like this
Facebook has user_birthday but users must authorize the app to read their own data, not of any account!
Have we not learned anything from Cambridge Analytica
i guess when your entire goal is to push something (mandatory ID verification and de-anonymisation) with a hell of a lot of political power and money behind it, it's only natural to immediately point the finger that anyone who doesn't like what you're doing must also be playing your game
As we have communicated. We did the update on Septemebr 17th.
Now a question back to you @wdonthavetime.selfhosted.social
Who have funded you and what is your connection to other PDS operators?
What is your motive to create a site framing public information as a "data-leak" what's your motive?
"W Social may have published personal information such as your full legal name, date of birth, email address, and nationality in their public records. Information which many would expect to be remain private."
wdonthavetime.offprint.app/a/3mxj2ohfsh...
This is our contention. Real consent requires a clear understanding of the implications. The atmosphere concept is new to most, and for general audiences, relatively complicated compared to previous paradigms. It is irresponsible to publish full names, nationalities and birth dates.
Its also not clear that when users are signing they're aware of how public this data is. They may have assumed the data is only visible to WSocial users. Pretty much anyone is able to see the data of anyone on WSocial.
It’s a strange position to be in, explaining that (gasp) sometimes people don’t do things just for the money. This is why the old models continue to fail us. The rich work only to seize more power and influence, and assume we all share this same view.
Community matters.
#ApesTogetherStrong
This is incredibly easy to answer. Unlike #WSocial, we have no financial motivation or incentive. We care about people's privacy and safety online. We want to help W users understand how their data is being disclosed, and show just how readily available W has made their personal data.

Click the ID icon on a profile to see:
• Verified name, if the person chose to share it
• Age range
• Nationality used for verification
You chose what to share during verification. The upgraded badge now displays those details.
We are flattered by the compliment @ingmar.wsocial.eu but one can build a little website in an afternoon. Unlike @wsocial.eu , we practice real transparency. Our code is free, open source, inspectable, and available on @tangled.org →

Can you add these details to your site?
You seem to have put considerable time and resources into creating a website about W. It would help readers to know who is behind it.
Here are my details:
Lars Ingmar Stensson Rentzhog

Who is behind you, and who is funding the site?
"W is built on verified human users, transparency, privacy, and free speech." — wsocial.news
We are a small independent team exercising our right to #transparency, #privacy and #freespeech. Thank you for opening the dialogue. We have much more to say.

And we never said or claimed a "Leak". A leak is accidental occurrence that will eventually be rectified. Understand that this is a very intentional change of policy by @wsocial.eu#WsocialFacts#Wned

We have no connection to W Social, or any other PDS operators. Unlike @wsocial.eu who have not revealed their investors, we neither require nor receive funding to hold power accountable on the open web.
