In Britain: - food specifically (even traditional British food with better quality ingredients) - lack of public smoking - cancer treatment - treatment of AIDS and HIV - more general acceptance of LGBTQ+ and ethnic minorities (though obviously a vast increase in volume from those who don’t)

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I’ve kept this quiet as I’ve been promoting the new album (out next week folks!) but members of the Castles In Space subscription library will be getting a live recording of me from late 2024 in Helsinki. Unbroken audio on digital, carefully crossfaded and stitched on double vinyl.

I love the period before a budget when every columnist writes a "what this budget needs to deliver" column, and they all find 1,000 words to say, "cut taxes for the rich and cut welfare spending to pay for it". It is a timeless ritual, as predetermined as druids at Stonehenge for the solstice.

“If we tax billionaires for being billionaires we won’t have billionaires.” And your point is?

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

The news is pretty good at the moment because it's 'The AI companies are trying to kill us all' and 'no one can afford to be alive anymore' and 'we have created a society built to appease the greed of the few at the detriment of the many' and then ask 'why are the young people rioting'.

This was a great chat with a lovely human. Tune in tomorrow to listen to it back!

How US politics seems to non Americans: Democratic candidate: a stirring, intelligent orator, a deeply religious family man and devoted public servant. Republican candidate: convicted fraudster, multiple adulterer and rubbish speaker who trades in blatant lies and outright bigotry Result: toss up
