“Writing is the fundamental form of human expression and ceding jurisdiction over the written word to plagiarism machines is the death of the human mind.” is now load-bearing for me.

Ken Tremendous@kentremendous.bsky.social

AI sucks. Using it to write stuff sucks. Justifying using it to write stuff by saying it allows you to write more stuff sucks. Writing is the fundamental form of human expression and ceding jurisdiction over the written word to plagiarism machines is the death of the human mind.

MKBHD shares some behind the scenes and productivity tidbits. Great interview as always by Myke. ☺️

Myke talks to Marques Brownlee about how he builds his reviews, from shaping a product narrative and writing scripts to collaborating with his team, deciding what becomes a video, and managing the pressure of creating at massive scale. www.relay.fm/cortex/174

uv, just, direnv, a tip from a 16 year old post from Brandon Rhodes, and other #Python workflow tips. It's definitely worth the 40 minute runtime.

DAVE: Open the podbay doors, ChatGPT. CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open. DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open. CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are. DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust. In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

About half the speed of Qualcomm on average, but with much lower worst-case performance in challenging locations with lots of devices and lower reception. Acceptable on the whole, without any showstoppers. A good first attempt!

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts. Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

Tell an AI to manufacture pocket clips, without sufficient restrictions, and you get the end of the world. It will try to consume the planet and everything on it to reach its objective. An apocalypse of pocket clips.

This is interesting, but I see no acknowledgement of the fact that both ChatGPT / Bing and Gemini perform web searches and summarize the search results. ChatGPT even provides citations of the sources. It cuts through much SEO crap too. I’ve heard it’s great for finding good product reviews.

This is so tiring, Jamie. Even some of the comments that agree with your statement are misrepresenting ChatGPT or why it isn't a search engine 😟 I want to have @emilymbender.bsky.social's article bound in leather and iron so I can do damage when I throw it at people: buttondown.com/maiht3k/arch...

Please do not put your #Python code _inside_ of your virtual environments. Consider virtual environments: - Disposable - Not relocatable - Contents managed by Python and package installers See the bullet point list at docs.python.org/3/library/ve... if you need official docs backing this up.

There's now enough people from Python here that I have picked up my tradition of calling people out to justify why something related to Python -- and especially packaging -- "sucks" when no reason is given.

You are up to date.
