Keeping an eye on this California gov debate. Not at all Becerra’s strong suit, and Steve Hilton is a much more engaging speaker

In partial defense of the article here's the part most people didn't read that preemptively acknowledges a common response. I think perhaps a way of better understanding the point he's trying to make is to flip it...

My Gen Z employees have taught me that putting the !! sticker on a text means you agree with what the person is saying and not “omfg are you kidding me?!?” (as I had been using it frequently) and now I’m spiraling.

Just learned the Grass Roots song Let's Live For Today was originally an Italian hit (by a British band singing in Italian?!) Adding it to the list of songs w/foreign language origins: My Way Summer Wind Beyond The Sea Gloria (Brannigan) You Don't Have to Say You Love Me Let It Be Me

Definitely a great idea to constantly change fictional dates so every sf story remains safely in the future. New editions of 1984 should be set in 2062 but with nothing else changed

in re Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" (which, in the original Martian Chronicles, occurs on today's date), I didn't realize the very first published version of the story, in Collier's magazine, was set in April 1985. (the current edition of Martian Chronicles now sets it in 2057).

Posted a Dylan album yesterday and happened to grab an album this morning with a "Song for Bob Dylan". If it's a sign I'm rolling with it. The rest of the day all songs shall be dedicated to Bob whether he likes it or not. Probably not. #vinyl #music #bowie #dylan music.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Seems clear that there's a deal that Trump can scream about not signing the housing bill until SAVE America is passed but will let it become law tomorrow. Also seems clear that if anyone makes Grandpa too mad today, he'll veto it and screw the deal. This is our government now: Don't poke the loony.

RIP. An early-'70s crush with one of the all-time great names in TV. And yes, it was real. His actual name was Randy Mantooth, which is...just...impossible. I wonder if he ever got my fan letter. www.tvinsider.com/1274911/rand...

Biggest gaps between coolness of song and lameness of real person the song is about: You Oughta Know (Dave Coulier) Free Man in Paris (David Geffen) Killing Me Softly (Don Mclean) My Tears Ricochet (Scott Borchetta) ... ??

Anyway this is your usual reminder to spend at least as much time promoting content you find insightful/informative as you do dunking on content you find bad. To do otherwise creates perverse incentives.

I'm working on a column about the tech annoyances that drive us crazy, and I want it to be as universal as possible, so tell me yours! E.g. scanning a QR code to read a menu, never receiving the one-time passcode they supposedly texted you, "verify you're human" by IDing tiny motorcycles, etc.

Just gonna keep saying it: Drastic SCOTUS reform should be a central part of the 2028 Democratic Party platform, and for Presidential candidates...I don't love litmus tests, but for me, this is becoming one.

i know this is a stale "over 30s" opinion, but honestly listening to Beatles tracks, and especially the 2nd half discography, has greatly improved my mental health over the last few years i think this works for all things, so go back and find the good stuff... it helps with dealing with the present

At the time of its release, in April '88, Tracy Chapman's debut sounded like nothing else on rock radio. You'd hear Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Eagles. And then, Fast Cars. It was a breath a fresh air and reminded me of Joan Armatrading's work. The whole LP has aged well and remains relevant, powerful.

Republicans have held the Senate for five of the last ten Congresses. Only one of those flips if DC and PR had both been states w/ 2 Dem senators, mid-session in 2018 when Jones was elected. Nor would PR voting Dem (DC already does) have flipped the 2024, 2016, or 2004 presidential elections.
