I think peak Steam Next Fest for me has to be Bumper Bout, which is a 1v1 pinball battle that is ungodly chaotic and features a ripped humanoid pinball named "Uh Oh." No online yet, but the store page suggests it will have it so maybe just a demo limitation. Still, fantastic time.

Thinking to myself "oh yeah, we've got really fast internet now, I can download this 160gb download really quickly" and being reminded that no, I still cannot in fact do that lol.

I've been quiet about it for a hot minute so I feel the need to remind everyone that I am still wildly impatient for the Steam Frame despite the "waitlist could be after 2027" reality I find myself in. I SEE PEOPLE STILL GETTING PROMOTED, SURELY I'M NEXT!

Heads up, as of the other day the Steam Next Fest list is now supposed to be curated to your tastes and what's been well received. Which makes it much easier to scroll by the slop. Still a lot of it, but it's not literally every listing anymore like it was on Monday.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

With the massive influx of security vulnerabilities discovered by AI, most of which are memory safety problems, I do wonder if the end state here is actually "nothing is ever secure again" or just "memory safety is universal and now we need to start finding novel bugs again."

Sydney Sweeney reveals in an interview that she doesn’t care about the PHP vulnerability because she moved everything to Rust in 2024. “They said the rewrite would take six months. We’re on month 30. We haven’t shipped a feature since, but I’m having a very normal Wednesday.”

The first Steam Game Festival was originally targeted at making E3 demos accessible to everyone. By the nature of that concept it was heavily curated. When Steam Next Fest evolved into "anyone with a demo is invited," it made the whole thing nearly worthless, and AI has only compounded the problem.

Steam Next Fest 2026 has more than double the number of demos than last year, but how much of it is generative 'AI slop'? www.eurogamer.net/steam-next-f...

Do you figure coconuts enjoy their life hanging over beaches? Or do they just sit there utterly terrified of the fall that could come for them any day now?

I think my funniest quality is my ability to instantly find the least efficient possible solution to a problem I'm having and, when the stakes are sufficiently low, decide "fuck it, this'll work" and barrel ahead anyways.

Reading a paragraph and feeling like I'm illiterate but it's really just that every third word is misspelled in such a way that it becomes a different word lol.

One thing I've been thinking about for several years re. AI, are we ever going to have another new programming language/framework/low-level API take off? So much AI training data is the internet from the past few years, so why ever leave React 18 or Python 3.11? That's gonna be the strength!

I feel that I should clarify, there are few things in technology I hate more than the proliferation of shitty React apps, and if the widespread adoption of AI-assisted development means we're stuck with them until the end of time I will explode lol.

I use OneDrive exclusively as an "I need to send someone a very large file" service because I have 30gb free from owning a Surface many moons ago. And I just managed to land at exactly 0.00GB free which is insanely satisfying.

Always a good feeling to be working through something and you're not quite sure how it's all going to fit together until suddenly you very much are. Like hell yeah, *now* we're going places.

Remind me how the hell we allowed Nintendo to get away with recording a hundred or so of the best songs ever written and then confining them to the mind-numbingly boring open world section of Mario Kart World?

guys that cloudflare chart is about automated content crawling not social media bots, Yandex is an indexing site, when one of its DCs go down they do less crawling of the web. please learn to read.

everyone is making pretty bold anecdotal claims about the Yandex DC going out resulting in less right wing content, but all the actual data I’ve seen has been saying it hasn’t moved the needle at all. I would be very skeptical of these claims; they will almost certainly turn out to be totally false.

There are some neighbor kids who have recently discovered the wonders of "very loud vehicle we can drive up and down the road" and wow, that fits in really nicely with the other neighbors' "country music we can blast at 110% volume" and "guns we can fire off repeatedly in the backyard."

Probably the coolest thing he's done next to being a potential Bomberman fan

Had a lovely day today, however it was topped off by learning that apparently being on the Steam Frame waitlist means waiting until at least 2027 so actually nevermind, terrible day lol.
