It's hard to express how much is going on here and what a big deal it is. We've been building toward this for over 8 years now, and we genuinely built a video game history research tool that is usable by anyone. We're democratizing game research through a free, no-bullshit, human-curated resource.

The Video Game History Foundation Library is now in early access. For free. For everyone. Wherever you are. Read more: gamehistory.org/vghf-library...

Crazy how small it seems. They did such a good job of making it feel vast, whereas MGS2’s world felt more contained. MGS3 felt enormous, as did MG4 which flaunted it by including a particular location as a mere single chapter. Hard to believe all four of those came out during a 10-year period.

Everyone was freaking out about system requirements but it turns out - there was nothing to worry about. It runs super fast on PCs down to lower spec systems.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PC runs great to the point where optimised settings are far less important than understanding what the texture cache option does and how you should configure it for your GPU. Alex has our PC tech review: youtu.be/xbvxohT032E

I’m never sure about remakes that change the art direction too much.

My memory of Notre Dame de Paris is of a vast, impressive but gloomy interior. Now look at it! Amazing achievement in five years

Unity management continuing with the great PR

Veridian Expanse@veridian-expanse.bsky.social

So Unity recently decided that the tiny startup I dayjob for needed to upgrade to Industry at 5k/year/seat. We had no chance to contest it because they would have killed our only product. They even threatened people we worked with in the past with the same. It's not just us. DO NOT USE UNITY!

Well, that was disappointing. They got it just beyond early access (so you have to buy it) and promptly abandoned it with just a few maps and tonnes of missing mechanics. The Tribes curse continues.

YES. GOD YES. There is little that’d excite me more than a well-executed new Tribes game. That’s a tall order given some past efforts but even a glimmer of hope is better than the last decade+ of silence. www.ign.com/articles/new...
