My brain cannot process this level of corruption. She was being paid $50 million to engineer a pardon from Trump *while working at the Justice Department* as a "Special Government Employee." And it worked. He got the pardon, and she got the money. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...

He got it not long after his daughter gave Ms. Habba, a lawyer close to President Trump, an extraordinarily lucrative job.

To every reporter who stands there as Trump shouts down one of your (almost always female) colleagues with insults and bullying behavior without standing up for them -- you know the rest of us can see and hear you, right?

WOW. The ex-wife of the ICE officer who shot a 26-year-old Colombian man in Maine has come forward to say that he had mental health issues and was abusive in their relationship. She says after the shooting he called asking her to vouch for him — instead, she went to the press.

As others have noted, this engages in a lot of ad hominem and strawman attacks. It is particularly silly that Dan claims there's some kind of subliminal confession in a phrase I didn't even use in my essay. We'll have other responses in due course at The UnPopulist, but my personal reply is here:

substack.comA Reply to “Against Court-Packing”Addressing a few points of confusion.

Court packing to save democracy is a cure worse than the disease. The Court isn't illegitimate, and the nation faces no emergency. Packing it would endanger real gains in free speech, gun rights, and the equal protection doctrine, writes Cato's Dan Greenberg. https://ow.ly/t69H50Zn3hj

really cannot be emphasized enough that the drafters of the birthright clause very much considered cases analogous to undocumented immigrants and *included them too*

Adam Serwer@adamserwer.bsky.social

That's right.

With this ruling, the birthright issue is not going away. The right hasn't really begun *organizing* around getting rid of the citizenship clause. Like Roe, this will be their fight for a generation. And if the Democrats just say "we won" and ignore it, like Roe, the Republicans will eventually win.

The facts of this case are bad. County wrongly claimed family owed $2,000 in taxes, foreclosed on the home, and sold a house it assessed at $190K for just $76K and tried (unsuccessfully) to keep all $76K. Screwed a family out of tens of thousands to collect $2,000 that they didn't actually owe.

Mark Joseph Stern@mjsdc.bsky.social

The Supreme Court's fourth opinion is Pung v. Isabella County. Per Alito, the court holds that when the state forecloses upon a house due to outstanding property taxes, it owes the former owner only "the price obtained in a tax sale" under the takings clause. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

It’s been five years since Alex Jones lost InfoWars to the Sandy Hook families. As the verdict came down, he asked: “Do these people actually believe they’re getting any money?” He hasn't paid them a penny. Well, The Onion is going pay them anyway. The new InfoWars begins July 2nd at 8 p.m. ET.

It should be said loud and clear that this isn’t just illegal in all the usual ways. It is “illegal and void” by Section 4 of the 14th Amendment. We’re going to take the money back. And any financial institution that touches it should be on notice that will be treated as conscious money laundering.

I can't leave it alone. Here's the 527-page opinion describing Alabama's congressional map: "[t]ry as we might, we cannot understand the 2023 Plan as anything other than an intentional effort to dilute Black Alabamian's voting strength." That's the map SCOTUS resurrected today with 0 explanation.

They beat a blind refugee who speaks no English for failing to obey police commands he could not understand. Then instead of apologizing, they charged him with possession of a “weapon”—HIS WALKING STICK. Then they dumped him miles from home without notifying anyone, after which he was found dead.

Asha Rangappa@asharangappa.bsky.social

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF

The motions are “unopposed” because Trump now sits on both sides of the case—as the defendant and as the glowering visage who looks out from tall banners on the walls of a subjugated DOJ—and Judge Cannon did not allow any of the third parties who sought to intervene to argue for disclosure.
