CI-borg and Wellman award finalist--author of the Los Nefilim series. I've long been accused of telling stories, which is a southern colloquialism for lying. Repped by Lisa Rodgers, JABberwocky Literary Agency www.tfrohock.com

Also the US has never had free & fair elections for everyone, and if this is your first time worrying about it, welcome to the party! Fortunately lots of people have been here for decades and know what to do, if you are ready to listen!

"Yet little remains of this ingenuity. Some examples survive in glass and ivory, but exhibits are scarce; leather rots, wax deforms, glass breaks. Even when a dildo survives, it may be given another name..."

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Let me just say that when you lower yourself to picking a fight with me, I know the really well-known authors aren't paying attention to you.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Congratulations, Brazil!! Lula's win is wonderful, not just for what it says about Brazilians, but it also shows that mega-billionaires, who promote fascists and pour money into elections, can be beat.

Once more for those in the back, especially fascists seeking notoriety through "engagement:" you'll earn the fastest block in the southeast with one reply. I don't engage. You're not worth my time.

Breath and Bone quote, day 6: "Um," I heard. "Um, sir, my lord, I think Godling Thallyn wants you to come with us. If-if you don't mind, my lord." And then when he turned that molten stare on her, [...] "It's just a sword and your sister needs you." And he gave a huff of laughter and bowed.

As an addendum to my local public library posts: I asked them about the latest Stephen Graham Jones novel and they both squealed (they're horror fans and love Jones's books, too) and then they put a hold on it for me. This is so wonderful. So. Much. Good. Horror.

I've kind of come full circle in terms of libraries. When I was a child, my father took us to the library every single Saturday. For 32 years, I worked as a cataloger in a community college library. Now that I'm retired, I'm back to the same public library I grew up in. 1/3

They have a special shelf for local authors, so I went there today to let them know my Los Nefilim books were written by me, a local author. Another lovely author who works there had already made sure my books were on the local shelf. So I got my library card and chatted with the librarians. 2/3

I joked that I was surprised the Los Nefilim series hadn't had complaints or been banned yet, because they're very LGBTQ+. Both librarians assured me they did NOT ban books. I looked down and saw a rainbow ring on one librarian's hand. I've found my people again ... always in libraries. 3/❤️

When I heard Vikas Adam read the dialogue between Miquel and Diago, I knew I had the right narrator for my books. No virtual voice could have read the love into that scene the way Vikas did.

If you want to see what a vibrant life LGBTQ+ people led prior to the Nazi takeover in Germany, you should watch Eldorado: Everything the Nazis Hate. It's a brilliant historical documentary and shows how quickly we can lose the rights we cherish. On an unrelated note: please vote.

One of the things the documentary points out (& has always broken my heart) is that the men, who were incarcerated in concentration camps under the Nazis weren't freed at the end of the war. They were forced to complete their sentences in prison under Paragraph 175, which wasn't repealed until 1994.

I made Basement Cat a little bed of an old cardboard box and some old towels. I hope he sleeps in it tonight. When I gave him breakfast this morning he walked within a foot of me (watched me the whole time but didn't run). Winning a cat's trust is tough, kiddos.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

This morning started with the cat throwing up a prelude to a hairball, the dog crapped on the floor, and one of the toilets backed up. I'm now sitting in my living room, afraid to leave.

I love folk horror and I'm so pleased there have been so many good ones released lately. I'm thoroughly enjoying The Hill in the Dark Grove by Liam Higginson.
