Make More Friends

modamo@modamo.xyz

I appreciate the fact that the word “friend” is expansive enough to include “person I literally interacted once” to “person who I would drop everything for if they needed me”

This whole statement is incredibly damning but gosh this part especially. Very much worth reading.

Lessons from our siblings in Brazil.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Riding the algorithm as political action. Wild shit out of Brazil

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

That stat is startling! But this is what I mean when I say that Americans only notice horrific things that happen to Black people, when they start happening to non-Black people🤷🏿‍♂️ Ferguson, MO has 14K Black people. It issued ~20K racist citations a year against them🤯, leading to ~30K arrest warrants.

Startling stat — a police officer in a small Texas town handed arrested and handed over immigrants to ICE at such volume that the total number is the equivalent of 10% of his town's population. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/m...

some folks reported not being able to use certain adult-focused platforms (like onlyfans and fansly) — there was an internal miscommunication and these were accidentally added to the list of disallowed domains. this is now fixed! but you may need to refresh your app to get the update. 💙

20K people have added 60K profile links in the first 24 hours! we pushed an update with some bug fixes and will keep polishing. thanks all for the feedback.

my boyfriend doesn’t care that I “broke the muse sexting story” and stopped the “instagram ai deepfakes for everyone” moment — he just wants what all men want: GTA VI.

i think the assumption that LLMs are going to make software more stable and secure are basically for the foreseeable future outright false. LLMs are not producing more secure and stable code unless significant attention is paid to what they ship, which it generally is not. and attacking is ~free.

conputer dipshit@davidcrespo.bsky.social

would be interested to see more debate on this from security types and even some formal modeling. my hunch is that you can lock down individual systems quite well and the ways they interact in such a way that the probability of end to end exploits goes tolerably close to zero x.com/CJHandmer/st...

Although atproto's openness is largely treated as a net good, in some ways we've democratized access to spying on one another. I have no doubt that the entire firehose has been captured and is being analyzed by malign state-level actors all over the world. Now, with abundant AI, we can do that too

Ever since people started deploying bots on atproto I've wanted to make a bot that exposes how much of our personality can be inferred from our posts. With Attie, instead of doing this publically and doxing us, I made you a tool that lets you apply this privately to yourself.

I navigate so many of our emerging tools with a sense of risk. In the same way my first Tiktok video was about sacrificing my facial privacy, my first Attie site is about the hugely intimate insights about us that we create by posting online--and the power atproto gives us to analyze one another

The Cambridge Analytica scandal exposed the ways that Facebook and its closed network of partners used our Facebook data and data they scraped and bought from across the web to make highly intimate insights about us that with CA moved from serving consumer to political advertisements.
