This is why I am excited about Goose in a way I haven't been about any new programming language since Rust. Putting aside GC, even heap allocations have overhead. And it is very natural to do quite a lot of allocations in C/C++/Rust. A language without heap allocations can be a lot faster!

Yes, in at least some of the benchmarks we’ve seen the “expert” C code ends up looking similar to the idiomatic goose code. The difference is that goose has features to make it easier to maintain, and is memory-safe.

Wrote some fairly involved Unixy process fiddling code in go(on Linux). Was shocked that it just worked with all tests passing on first try on openbsd. Apparently go is the thing that makes Unix portability work

Omer Bartov reviews Jochen Hellbeck's book on how the Nazis' geopolitical ambitions specifically against "Judeo-Bolshevism" were crucial fabric & "larger setting" of the Holocaust & WWII, ie not the West's strictly racial hatred dominant narrative. Western erasure of USSR vs Soviet erasure of Jews.

Wish McCain was alive to see his least fav gas station shut down

Putin announced Russia temporarily banned gasoline and kerosene exports and is considering a full diesel ban. He also claims Russia has 1.7 million tons of gas reserves, supposedly only 4% down from last year, but admits fuel station queues and unavailable grades persist.

Ukraine's SOF took out a Russian mobile fire group tasked with protecting fuel trucks from drones on the logistics route to occupied Crimea.

Fuel tankers in occupied Crimea are rolling with armed escorts now. Russia is deploying mobile fire groups along logistics routes just to protect their fuel shipments, Exilenova+ reports.

Still dumbfounded when llms put together software that would have taken me weeks. I can now explore every single linux perf optimization my heart desires. Used to be so painful to get into new areas

Tailscale on UEFI ... who needs an OS, really? (using github.com/usbarmory/ta...) And yes, clearly putting a bootloader in here is an obvious next step 😉 This week is Hack Week at Tailscale. This is one of the 4 weird new places I got Tailscale running. #golang #tamago #tailscale #hackweek

Apparently using AI makes you dumb. I was too dumb to figure out why ubuntu installer was hanging so i asked pi to ssh in and figure it out. Turns out its cos I picked ukraine timezone and ubuntu devs run their timezone installer in interactive mode and it got angry at Kyiv vs Kiev distinction

about freaking time! So excited

TypeScript excitement 😉 Congrats to Renegade334 on landing support for @tc39.es "Upsert" in upstream TypeScript. Heading for TS 6.0 Beta next week 🎉 let map = new Map(); map.getOrInsert(key, defaultVal); It sets a default value on a map key with no overwriting. github.com/microsoft/Ty...

I switched to Purelymail yesterday on a whim (from my previous self-hosted set up) and so far so good. Much easier than I expected, only took about 30 mins.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free

From the interview he comes across as such the most extreme pragmatist. No holy cows for Anders. Zero attachment to past work, just a better perspective on future

Only thing that was painful to hear was his claim that tsc could run in the browser cos it was in JS. Have minor PTSD from this not being the case

DuckDB now supports reading from and writing to the Vortex file format! The DuckDB Labs and Spiral teams have worked together to make Vortex available as a core extension in DuckDB. We gave it a test drive, and it performed very well. Read the full article to learn more lnkd.in/eZfGzPiZ

Would it be ok if we call unqualified people using llms...AI agents?

I love the idea of my JBL Link display cos it has awesome sound and the voice interaction features from google home...but I absolutely hate how the device gets worse over time. As a result been thinking through and prototyping a simpler solution for past few years... Hate-driven development
