“Prediction market” partnerships and private equity all in the mix sounds like a mistake to me…

Mike Vorkunov@mikevorkunov.bsky.social

The NBA has reached deals with Kalshi and Polymarket to make them the league's preferred prediction markets partners. The companies can now use NBA IP on their platforms, while the NBA gets right of approval on markets that they offer. That and more: www.nytimes.com/athletic/772...

Hard to believe “look at the crazy low prices in this old timey newspaper” is now from the Obama era.

This week’s main story is about how more and more white nationalists, antisemites, and Nazi sympathizers seem to be integrating into the Republican Party, how some of them are currently running for office, and how old you can be for JD Vance to consider you “a very young boy.”

Agreed. People keep trying to come up with complicated analysis about why people keep supporting racist pedophiles over their interests, but it’s quite simple. They are white supremacists that would rather die than live in an equitable world. We have libraries of data supporting this.

This could be an admission that they’re completely out of touch with what voters want. It could also be an admission that they’ve already got things rigged in their favor.

In 1973 Singer, Songwriter & Actor — PAUL WILLIAMS — stopped by The Tonight Show fresh from the set of ‘Battle For The Planet Of The Apes’ to sing “Here’s That Rainy Day”. One of the funniest certainly most surreal moments in the show’s history.

He just told everyone that elections don’t matter to his party. Not that we didn’t know that already but another 1/6 is definitely in the cards

Blanche on CBS says his suit against Alaska is "asking the court to step in where the Alaska Supreme Court didn't, which is to look at federal law and if necessary to allow a process for Alaska to decide who should be certified as the winner." (So, the voters won't get to decide. Got it.)

This should be concerning to everyone but there’s a certain demographic that thinks this rhetoric will never affect them

I’m still not rolling with people saying Pablo was foul for his reporting on the Clippers situation. We’re surrounded by journalists in the pockets of government administrations and professional sports leagues but then when someone does real investigative work, it’s a problem???!?!?

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

Rein in data centers. Block corporations from mass layoffs. Make the AI economy benefit everyone. Stop AI abuses of our data. Require government approval for new AI products. Together, these five guardrails will protect us from an AI-powered dystopia.
