I cannot stress enough how much I’m going to need all 6000 or so of you following us on here to step up and buy this one as I’m only being very slightly hyperbolic to say it’s almost done for me…

Adolph Menzel, Death as an Unwelcome Guest, 1844/1845. Watercolor and gouache. 5.1 x 3.6 in. (Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). Death politely recognizes that this is a shoe-free house.

spent time today watching movies out of the heat and wrote a little anagram routine that actually does the job PHM was great got proto working in one evening, amaze amaze play a bit more w regex and the cruncher then port to something modern

Here's a shortish thread on the mentioned build. I cut most of the cedar facings last year and had it in storage (project backlog). This time, I used 3/4 PT ply for the main structure, except the ends where I used boards for the substrate. Sorry no pics of side construction; on to site prep...

the second planter build is now fairly complete, barring putting the facing on the sides and piling in layers for some mini pseudo-Huegelkultur, but now lines on paper #art #sketchart #betterthandoomscrolling

A few inches above the braces, the fill changed to brush and clean, untreated wood. More wood followed this pic, then dirt was agitated into gaps before continuing with dirt only. The wood layer should be kept below the level of most gardening activity.

Final shot for now. Dirt and peat will settle in over the Winter. Future updates: final Spring fill, lining the upper interior, and linseed paint. (The original planter also needs retrofits.) Thanks to all that made it to this point and found it interesting.

Railing locked in and side face frames complete. Finally time to fill. The first layer is rock for weight and drainage, starting in the corners to help anchor the box from further movement. A lot of accumulated rock from prior yard work went in, most of it fairly good size.

First view inside the box during filling. At this point, the loose rock is in and fill is changing over to mixed rock/dirt and then will go to dirt for several more inches to a point above the cross braces.

Foundation takes shape. This is the rough level. From here, sections of pavers were moved and paver base added for final leveling. Some tweaks enlarged the planter over the original design. The base could use another large paver on each side but it turned out to be just long enough.

Sides stacked up, ready to go. The work area was crowded from materials and leftovers from the prior project during the build so no pix. The black backers are the wrapped plywood; the wood is cedar. One of the anchor blocks for bracing is visible.

shed's done; next is a finish a huge planter and clear some unsightly materials making lines, playing around with the badgerfish, which inadvertently lost some "badger" this one will need source work; could be cool #sketchart #betterthandoomscrolling

Betye Saar died at 99 in Los Angeles yesterday. The beloved artist passed away in her sleep just four days before her 100th birthday. Over a seven-decade career, Saar’s visionary assemblages recast the debris of American history into monuments of Black resilience and liberation.
