somehow ive found myself in a position where folks come to chuck in times of strife for encouragement. lets get the big part of this conversation out of the way LOVE IS STILL REAL and that is the thing to remember. that north star remains. today there is more to talk about though

FFS, Gen x, can we please stop embarrassing ourselves? Go vote yes on 40, no on 41 & 42. Taxing billionaires is the most punk rock thing ever, and some of y'all have forgotten your roots.

If you are tired of being treated like a credulous idiot, have I got a 🧵 for you...

The Editorial Board@editorialboard.bsky.social

1. I am very tired of being asked to be stupid. I know that is not the most important thing right now. There are many more serious consequences to electing a criminal president who is burning up the economy.

And in CA, we can vote to tax billionaires to get health care help for our neighbors. Vote yes on 40 to give 250 individuals a chance to give back to society! (also no on 41 & 42)

In just 10 days, we can: Flip the House. Win back the Senate. End Trump’s agenda But only if YOU vote. IWillVote.com

THEY ARE NOT POWERLESS TO STOP HIM! Go back to Washington, stand on the steps of the Capitol and demand Johnson and Thune recall the House and Senate, and impeach him. THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK! THERE IS LITERALLY AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL! (It's called the Constitution.)

Republican lawmakers are incensed about Trump's dismissal of Ukraine — and powerless to stop him. That frustration hit a new peak on Monday as they sought to address Trump’s decision to purchase Russian diesel, waive sanctions on Moscow, and potentially stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

The generation that got to buy cheap houses thanks to a postwar construction boom, then blocked new housing construction to juice their asset values is now whining that they have to pay taxes on their unearned wealth. Just breathtaking selfishness.

Revolting against property taxes will hollow out your state and turn it into a retirement community that drives out young people who weren’t lucky enough to buy in because they weren’t born 50 years earlier - signed, a Californian

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Right so the war against social science. Yes it’s ideological. It’s also a termination letter from the state saying it no longer needs legitimation. that’s the public crisis — ask yourself why it doesn’t need legitimacy.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

The administration wants to live stream an execution, but yeah, Senator Ossoff is the real problem. 🙄

driftglass@driftglass.bsky.social

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

It’s striking that the GOP has a massive cash advantage even when Trump is currently causing lasting harm to the US and global economy. What does that say about the interests of capital?

The machine did not "go rogue." The machine belongs to and is the responsibility of the people who own it. Hold those people accountable for their goddamn machine.

Planning for these scenarios is more exciting than working on regulations and creating secure testing environments. Pretty sure that's all this is.

Isn't it time for humanity to decouple from big business? They do not add value to our life at all. Built-in obsolescence, attempts to run everything on subscriptions, surveillance to optimise <their> business model, reliance on AI instead of humans, to our detriment - just a few examples.
