When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a retiree. You don't have to work and you can play video games all day! How great is that? I'm too disabled to even sit. Right now I'm just lying flat because everything hurts. I need a shower but ow no. Yay retirement. Hopefully I'll be more mobile later today.

What's the name of that Tony Hawk soundtrack song with the female vocalist that I love? I'll check online. AI search assistant I didn't ask for: "it's 'you' by bad religion (male, but is very popular with women)" Anyway it's "Let Me In" by Screaming Females so wow the AI missed the easiest layup

So earlier, my brother was watching Octobinz (Romain Toutain)'s livestream on Twitch. He was the Technical Director on Mass Effect Universe, so I wanted to share some bits he discussed. As he speaks french, I added subtitles to make it more accessible for everyone! #MassEffect #MassEffectUniverse

My first 5 RPGs: AD&D, Paranoia, Toon, Top Secret, HOL. I barely PLAYED any of these but reading the source books for Paranoia really informed my writing style later in life.

no one over 40 is gonna buy this because you can't play a bluray in it and no one under 40 will buy it because its going to cost $1200

PlayStation 6’s memory costs alone exceed $680 per console, it’s claimed, potentially suggesting an unprecedented price tag for the next-gen machine. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/playsta...

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!! Desert Bus for Hope 2026, the 20th year of Desert Bus! I hope y'all are ready for what promises to be the greatest show on Earth featuring a bus. What mischief, excitement, wonder and hilarity have we cooked up for this most auspicious year? Head to desertbus.org right now!

Trying to finish my plate of NextFest demos. Some I only play for 15 seconds! If it launches RIGHT into the game with no way to change settings and no clear controls or instructions, that's an Alt+F4. Yes, it's very immersive to dive in, gold star for forcing your vibe... but c'mon, now.

Similar no-no's -- VNs with every line of text having a two-second soft fade in for a short mumblecore bit of poetry, then a two-second soft fade out, then a two second forced pause. Yes, very atmospheric, very emotional, your piano music is lovely, but c'mon, let me move at my own pace dangit.

the entire bioware situation is just another episode of how now, more than ever, YOU are important to the small indie things you enjoy getting somewhere. talk about the things you love. buy it physical if you can. make art. share links. don't just go 'everything i love is dying', that's how it does.

I think takes that "BioWare had it coming" are disingenuous. Andromeda? Corporate forced them to use the Frostbite engine. Anthem? Corporate wanted a live service. Veilguard? Corporate wanted a live service, then rebooted it. The creativity that drove BioWare got re-routed by mismanagement.

I almost joined BioWare. I almost had a gig doing paid DLC for NeverWinter Nights (the module that became the HeX coda) until WotC interfered and torpedoed it. I was offered a job there, but couldn't justify a 50% salary cut and moving my disabled ass to Edmonton because remote work wasn't a thing.

I'm not claiming "creatives" are pure and perfect but make no mistake, t'was capitalism that killed creativity here. Reaching, grasping, trying to ride trends, cutting corners, everything in the name of short term gains. And the ones who drove BioWare into the grave are still there, running EA.

Before retiring I was a federally employed web specialist. I was on the front lines against hacks like the two seen today, which are affecting government websites. I can say confidently as an expert: ha ha ha get rekt, you losers DOGE RIF'd my entire team and now you got nothing, have fun shitbrains

Next Fest is really demonstrating the curse of the idea guy. Anyone can have an idea or steal one, but to make it good means living with it, working it, exploring it and finding what makes it work and is special. Or you can just have Claude shit out slop no one wants to play. Valve always needs

Every day, I get several emails from people wanting me to hire them; localization, marketing, art, music, voice acting, whatever. Sometimes the emails are written by AI, sometimes not. But I'm just a cranky old disabled retiree making games for fun. I'm not a corporate studio. I can't help you.

Honestly, I have no idea why they're reaching out to me at all. I've never said I wanted this help. I never advertised for it. I have to assume, especially with the AI emails, that it's just blasting out to everyone listed on steam in hopes someone will bite. I'm not biting. I can't. Sorry.

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

I don't WANT my social to just be boosting anti-AI posts. I want some positivity. But I'm tired, boss. I'm so tired of feeling pushed out of my own creative lane by clankers and clanker cheerleaders. If bespoke, human-made games are really a dying breed maybe I oughtta diminish and go into the west.

For the crime of "donating fifty bucks to ActBlue at one point" I have been sentenced to years and years of multiple text messages bombardments a day begging me to contribute to various campaigns across the whole country, all of which ignore my STOP requests.

It's true. I am incredibly lucky to be riding the high of ONE successful game plus a lifetime of savings, and even then I can only make pretty small and limited games. The people with the real pursestrings care more about AI FOMO than about creativity and are investing accordingly.

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

Finished watching the rest of Control Resonant. It has the same problem that Control had, and honestly, almost every open world game -- they can't let it END. Nothing can really be fixed, because what if you wanna do chase down random objectives and side quests? Feels like you accomplished nothing.

They even codified that in the story! "You beat the Hiss! But not really. Actually they've been in there for SEVEN YEARS and you made no progress. Now everything is screwed so I guess nothing you did in that game really mattered. Enjoy the sequel!" I don't trust Control 3 not to repeat that pattern!

I've officially hit the "Just watch the rest on YouTube" portion of Control Resonant. After a 1+ hour long traversal and cutscene rampage, I emerge into a new open world section, think "Good, now I can finally stop for a bit" and when I reloaded... it reset me back to the start of all that. NOPE.

Look, the visuals are amazing, but the combat is beyond my ability and the story isn't as interesting as I'd hoped it'd be. Rehashing every entity from Control (the Hiss are boring) means there's no real mystery here, and without that, you've got one-note characters and generic apocalypse stuff.

Maybe Control was one-of-one. Maybe the magic of 'faceless bureaucracy vs. cosmic horror' only works once. I don't know. But this feels like I'm finishing it just to finish it and I can give my button-mashing fingers a rest by watching the remainder.

I think I gotta be honest with myself and admit that I'm on break from game development for at least a few weeks. I'm exhausted. It's not burnout from the previous game exactly, it's just burnout from life in general. I'm still developing the next game but I'm not gonna crank on the scripts yet.

Them: we need one of those jumpcut city flybys with an iconic needle drop and a big chunky font to make sure the audience knows where we are Me: I'm on it

I keep forgetting to say this every time there's a steam sale event: Go wish list @blippo.plus . Heck, just buy it at full price, it's worth it. The amount of care and attention that went into making authentic cable TV style shows is astounding. The craft of it so sincere. Weird, queer, and FUN.

It's very interesting to see double fine embracing this style of indie game. I definitely recommend checking out this game, for a quick burst of simple and repeatable fun. I'm not convinced this is the way to go for plot armor, but it's definitely the right move otherwise.

The Double Fine Action Labs experiment is about more than just a bus game, it's about seeing if we can move quickly on small, handcrafted, bite-sized ideas that are fun to play and feel Double Fine. $4.99 is a low barrier for a vote of confidence in us trying a new thing.

Yeah OK, I'm gonna do it. I've been waiting for an opportunity to have a character in a wheelchair in a visual novel, and the user interface here won't block the artwork like it would in a more strictly third person game like Penny or laugh track.

I'm in the kind of annoyed and simmering mood where I kind of wanna make this game protagonist character disabled. I've done "disabled protagonist" twice now but I still feel the need to share how much it sucks! Like if I gotta go through this, you're coming with me.

Working on the shaders for my silly TV thing. I'm using reshade, so it automatically starts up when I start the program. I also have an autohotkey script that lets me auto start / close the program with controller support. Unfortunately I can't do screen curvature without a lot of moire patterns.

I interpret rainbow capitalism similarly to the Waffle House Index, as a weather forecasting trick. It's useless in terms of actual support of the queer community, but it's a good indicator of overall public support when the corporations feel safe marketing to us. Let's call it an indirect positive.

D+15 Midterm indicator

Boomers had model trains. Gen Xers and Millennials have MAME cabinets and piles of MKV files artfully arranged to simulate watching Toonami

It's a little convoluted, but I've got the cable simulator working. The CRT shader is extremely wonky so I'm gonna need to tune that but I've at least got the channels up and running including weather for the tri-state area.

Had a weirdly unproductive and productive evening after getting a chance to lie down. Tried to get a TV simulator going (channel flipping, program guide, and so on) and failed. But I got a really good chunk of code done for my next game. Now if I could just get the writing mojo going...
