[Vladimir Harkonnen voice] She who controls the information controls the president.
It is time for my traditional "I've finished another Gene Wolfe book" Pringles post. We've now rounded out the 12th book of the Solar Cycle. My second time through, but let's be honest, the first time didn't really take. I quite enjoyed the Short Sun books. It's a cycle so I guess…
Just hangin’ out waiting for someone to remember that it is #internationalcatday

My Gene Wolfe meets AI humanism piece (one of these days I am going to spend a day in the JHU library going through old issues of Plant Engineering to try to validate my guess that Wolfe read Shannon) www.programmablemutter.com/p/large-lang...
Feel like the goal of Gene Wolfe fandom now has to be getting our man cited by the actual Pope

And we're off! My most favourite telescope, the Vera Rubin Observatory, has turned on its public alert stream and boy, were there a lot of changes in the Universe last night. More coming: ~7 million a night 😮: exploding stars, belching black holes, asteroids cruising through the solar system. 🤗🔭🧪
Hunting down supernovae in near real time! Last night, the UK data broker Lasair ingested and rapidly processed 800,000 alerts as the @vrubinobs.bsky.social public alerts stream began! Now anyone can observe astronomical events as they unfold thanks to Rubin’s data brokers. What a milestone! 🔭

The developer of a code counting tool ranked popular proglangs by density. I am not surprised that "according to the data, if you want the highest ratio of human thought to keystrokes, the winner is the 60 year old concept, Lisp running as a modern JVM language Clojure." boyter.org/posts/boiler...

Portishead's Dummy is one of my top ten albums of all time. I am so lucky I discovered it early, when I am usually late to the party on everything (see: The Warning). If you love it like I do, you'll enjoy this video.

I saw a glory on the flight back from Europe last week. This one lasted for a few minutes.
I'll celebrate the return of the rss feed by posting this little faerie scene I found in the neighborhood the other day. Points for incorporating the mushroom proliferation we are seeing these days.

I said the other day that I had been doing #photoaday for an entire year. I've taken a break for a bit. I might pick it up again because it is a lot of fun and it forces me to pay more attention to my surroundings as I walk around. Regardless, I have the entire set of photos for the year.
This is my 365th #photoaday challenge! Today is Fence. I now have an entire year of these.
Sunday's #photoaday is Hidden Beauty. Laura called this flower a "death bloom" as the plant is in the process of dying, and as a last little goodbye, it is putting out this flower at the bottom.
Today's #photoaday subject is A Bicycle Wheel. I was happy to get a stop-action example on my run today.
The #photoaday challenge for Friday is Family Tradition. This is a patch of quilt. The full quilt hangs in our bedroom. All of my siblings received such a quilt from our parents when we got married.
Since Candle is the #photoaday challenge today, I give you my shrine to my cats past (or is it passed?). On the left is Eliot, and on the right is Emy. They are fondly remembered.
Another story brought to you by ESPNBet. Get your account and start gambling today!
The #photoaday subject today is In My Hand. I decided to grab ahold of the Earth.
The #photoaday subject today is Interesting Door Knob. Let me tell you, people don't have interesting doorknobs anymore. The thing I found interesting about this one is this. They needed 14 buttons; they used 10 digits, but why pick x, y, c and * as the other 4? My guess is the c stands for clear.
The #photoaday subject today is Shadows on the Wall. This shadow, made by the Sun, is of a facsimile of the Sun.
The #photoaday challenge today is Sunrise, but we've been having nothing but "marine layer mornings" the last few days. When I took this picture of the Sun, the people on the Maldives Islands saw it as it was coming up. 😁
The #photoaday subject today is Curves. This is the wading pool down at Green Lake.
If you know me at all, you've probably seen me carrying the #photoaday subject for Friday, A Cup of Tea.
I saw a few examples of Playground for the #photoaday subject today. They are much nicer today than the comparitive death traps on offer when I was playing in them.
