The mobilization itself was already not something I ever expected to see, but to actually win? Hell, to double the winning margin from the 2022 runoff? Genuinely surreal. Maybe child raping billionaires *don't* have to run the world with a shit-eating grin. Maybe that can stop.

What comes after? We’re not gonna get a truth and reconciliation type of Kumbaya moment These are the same people who were fine with everything up to the point that their gas bill got high. I want justice.

Muddling through is not good enough. It's kicking the can down the road for the next would-be autocrat to try again and try harder. It can be repudiated as a fundamental discontinuity in legitimacy and its perpetrators punished accordingly or else the democratic death spiral doesn't stop with him.

I mean, this is not complex: the death drive is right at the core of fascism, and fascism requires a constant sprint towards more cruelty, destruction and insanity. Any second it is at rest, it is dying. So it must keep getting worse and more extreme www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

they're rightly going to wonder why you're ceding ground on an issue that is almost entirely cared about, from the anti side, by insane bigots who are eternally opposed to your party and hate its voters personally

Yes, it sucks that the No Kings insta was suspended (though I still think it was likely an automated tripwire, rather than deliberate). But falling back into "well we have to politically punish media execs to get better results" doesn't fix anything.

If we just keep imposing these politics everyone hates it’ll work and they’ll cheer up, and they surely won’t just vote for the fascists eventually. And if they do, well, fuck it: we’ll spend a few years in opposition, then come up smiling in the 2030s. Robert est ton oncle, le job est un bon un

In summary, I will vote for slowing down fascism if that's really the only option being presented other than fascism, but I refuse to pretend that it's a robust, righteous alternative.

Russia has made great contributions to art and science over the last 400 years while having about 15 minutes total of decent government over that same period.

There is absolutely no viable path forward for this country that doesn’t hinge on extreme accountability for everyone involved in this administration. They’re going to whine about politicization and credulous media types will echo them, but the thing is, they’ve committed tons of obvious crimes!

I do not think an exec branch led by a man who thinks he is entitled to treat federal agents as an arm of his firm, refers to Somali Americans as “garbage” and has said racist things specifically about Omar is capable of neutrally applying the law to her, to put it mildly apnews.com/article/ilha...

We are at part of the cycle where Republicans are about to lose badly, and so they pivot to talking about the rhetoric temperature as if there is no pathology to it. Every dang time, hacking a real desire for dialogue but asking nothing meaningful of the most vicious voices in the right.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has emerged as a prominent voice calling on Americans to step back from the political hostility gripping the country. The Republican governor is expanding on that message in a new book. https://to.pbs.org/3VmTJnx

It was true before but now it's especially true that the rest of the world can't rely on what 30,000 voters in Wisconsin decide to do every four years. We're unreliable and should be treated as unreliable.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

And the big mistake we'll make is thinking democracy will bounce back from aberrations like Orban, Trump, PiS, etc, as if that's the natural order of things, but fundamentally the natural order of things has been completely turned on the head, so what's a naive assumptions become an absurdity.

I also think discourse around disinformation keeps falling into the trap of treating it as a supply side issue, rather than examining the demand side and what to do about that. That is a far more pressing, and far more complicated, problem.

Democracy has a dangerous sentence: “Surely somebody will stop this.” Sometimes that somebody is a judge. Sometimes a journalist. Sometimes Congress. And sometimes it’s millions of ordinary people refusing to cooperate. 🗣️ #JulesUnfiltered

If decent people regain control of the government, it seems to me that one of the first things that should be done is for the US to become party to the Rome Statute and turn over Hegseth, for instance, to the Hague. The US does not have a good record holding white men accountable.

The US Democrats need to look at their next Presidency as an endless sprint to obliterate MAGA, every day for years. Until the cancer is gone then there should be no time wasted on MAGA tears or conciliation. Only endless justice and rebuilding the democracy. Govern like every day is the last day.
