Holy crap. The small town I grew up in packs bigger crowds than this into the high school gymnasium for any random regular season basketball game.

I can't imagine many things more destined to fuck up a 10-year-old kid for life than "my own mother couldn't think of 3 things that make me special. So she used AI to cheat and then told the world about it."

cool, cool

Christ. Nothing says "Democrat" like the party sprinting toward a potentially historic success, only for candidates to start throwing rakes in front of themselves to step on at full speed.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

When I was moving a couple of years ago, I threw all 11* of my Harry Potter books in the trash, rather than donate them and risk getting some new kid hooked on them. Which is exactly what it feels like they're trying to do by sending these. *I had 4 in French

Scholastic sent me a whole box of paperback copies of Sorcerer’s Stone that I sure didn't order. When I asked why, my rep told me they're sending complimentary giveaway copies to random schools that do Book Fair.

The only time Evil Dead has made me feel drained was nearly 30 years ago, when I kept @tableflipsyou.bsky.social up in our dorm room until 2am, explaining how fuckin' rad it is to watch a dude with a chainsaw hand decapitate Styrofoam monsters that each spray a metric ton of corn syrup blood.

The director of the new Evil Dead wanted, direct quote, "to create a visceral, sensory experience that punches the audience in the gut. I want people to feel physically drained" and uh, has this guy ever seen an Evil Dead movie

there is still no “young person/internet trend” that confuses me more than the trend of holding lav mics

Nothing in my life has made me feel more like a Boring Adult than watching the opening scene of the original Toy Story, seeing Andy casually toss Mr. Potato Head into Molly's crib, and thinking, "that's a choking hazard! She should NOT be in a room with so many of these toys!"

I love when new people get into the things I love. But it's a bit frustrating that last year, in Salem, in October, I was able to buy Rocky Horror tickets a few hours before the show, but tonight's show was already sold out when I looked FIVE DAYS AGO.

I'm Dave, one half of the least popular Frasier podcast ever made. I love whenever a song by a man who's been "wronged" is interrupted by the woman who "wronged" him explaining why no, actually, he's the asshole in this scenario.

It really says something about the current state of tech that, when I'm running a couple of Microsoft Office programs, it feels like my work computer has as much lag as my Gateway 2000 did in the late 90s, despite it literally being thousands of times more powerful.

Obviously games and browsing the internet and things like that are way more advanced, no question. But this computer has literally 8000 times the RAM that Gateway had, and it still struggles to keep up with my own middle-aged human reaction time when I'm just writing an email or typing an equation.

As someone who has been tweeted about personally by Rowling. And who spends my whole life trying to fight the damage caused by the litigation she funds. I think, personally, I would be less harmed by you giving me an actual kick in the ribs than watching the new Harry Potter & trying to justify it.

The Verge@theverge.com

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

Yesterday, the funniest election result I'd ever heard was Count Binface getting 30% of the vote against Nigel Farage. Today, the funniest result is Seth Moulton barely doing better than that against Ed Markey.

Seriously, take it from someone who has held a VP position at a bank, a random guy who registers a lot of complaints at BofA is more relevant to the strategic direction of the company than any VP. And if I was murdered and anyone described me primarily as a "bank VP," I'd haunt them for eternity.

ℳatt@matttomic.bsky.social

She was one of THOUSANDS of VPs at Bank Of America. She is not the fucking "Vice President of Bank Of America" she was just a random 32-year-old woman with a mid-level corporate job who got murdered by a deranged stranger. You absolutely do not have to go tanky mode over this Bluesky

Just got home from Savannah Bananas, and my main takeaway is that it's good the tickets are tough to get. Because going exactly once was very fun, and going twice would probably cause me to crash out from the constant, unending stimuli from every possible direction.

It was legitimately a great time, and it made me want to get back into the habit of watching more of the games. It's just that being there in person made me really appreciate the people in the production booth who decide for me what I should focus on right now.

Watching online, it's fun how there's always different music playing, and there's people doing fun dances and all of that. In person, it's easy to miss when a game is happening, because there's no obvious break between everything going on between innings and everything going on during innings.

Others have said it previously, but I love how this promotional image from the 1990 Stephen King's IT looks like a prestige drama courtroom show, that just so also happens to involve a clown.

All I ever want from my life is to know I lived it in such a way that, when I go, a handful of people will think of me with a fraction of the respect and reverence Dolly Parton deserves today from everyone. She's not just a legend. She's the legend by which all others should be measured.

One of these days, my Honda Fit will die, and I'll spend the rest of my life angry about the various ways its replacement will inevitably be worse because Honda doesn't make Fits any more.

He also very thirstily wanted to be congratulated for saying it.

The Globe is simply lying here. What Seth Moulton actually did was refer to trans girls as “male,” imply they would hurt people, and say he didn't want them playing sports with his own daughters. It was blatant bigotry. He talked about trans girls the way segregationists talked about Black children.

Attending my first ever pow-wow this weekend after spending most of my life thinking I was "too white." And among the many experiences that keep making me think I was wrong all this time are, "that person looks like a legally distinct copy of my grandmother," and "That kid could be me at 13."

Society made me believe I grew up as another white person in a town full of white people. But looking around the pow-wow, I keep seeing groups of people who feel like I grew up with them, even though I've never met them before.

This was an incredible weekend. It'll be a long time (if ever) before I'll be able to allow myself wear or display anything that identifies me as Mi'kmaq or Penobscot. But that's my own battle with myself, as everyone this weekend made me feel like, the day I'm ready, I'll be welcomed.
