It's arrived!! My order from Newbury Electronics came today. It's the first time I've had a PCB made for me in 38 years, and it's by the same company.

Nooo!! ๐Ÿ˜ข

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

EYES ON THE SKIES ๐ŸŒ• This weekend, look up for Octoberโ€™s full Moon, known as the Hunterโ€™s Moon. Tonight (25 October 2026), the Moon will be full and will appear near Saturn in the night sky, creating a beautiful pairing that you can enjoy with the naked eye.

"I don't mind paying taxes. The more you make, the more taxes you pay. I'm okay with that," - Jensen Huang I worked with Jensen for almost 25 years. He's a good guy. However, banning loans secured on intangible assets, and increasing CGT is a better way IMO. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The fundamental Republican policy seems to be "we (Republicans) don't have, want, or need (because we already have them) nice things, so we're going to make sure nobody else can have nice things". Yet, people keep voting for them. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

A national tragedy and so short sighted.

Just a reminder that the STFC cuts will not only end all radio astronomy observations from Jodrell Bank and its e-MERLIN array, they will also end the UK's involvement in the Europe-wide radio astronomy network EVN, of which we were a founder member. Our international partners are astounded...

I've just made my very first 3D model for 3D printing. It's a PCB card guide for a Eurorack enclosure. The rack is from the 1980s, and you can't get the guides any more, so I'm going to try and make my own! Details in ALT text.

This is not true, and is just scaremongering. LLMs (emphasis on the first L - Large) take a lot of resources, and are incapable of running on home devices.

Masterclass in how to boil down the "ethos" of a political party to its core essence, and show that it is morally bankrupt and hollow, without actually accusing them of that, and without actually insulting anyone. Brilliant.

This is quite extraordinary. I don't think I have heard a more coherent, articulate and accurate deconstruction & demolition of Nigel Farage's ReformUK, Tory & Restore policy than this. In under 85 seconds! @rafaelbehr.bsky.social is on here folks and worth a follow.

๐Ÿ“ธ After asking you to share your photos of Jodrell Bank, one response led to an extraordinary discovery: a treasure trove of images taken by William "Bill" Young during his time at the Observatory between 1958 and 1961 Read Wayne's story: https://ow.ly/gqxq50ZWLKX ๐Ÿ”ญโœจ

I worked at 3Dfx from 1998 until it's demise in December 2000. This is worth a read.

It appears I missed the 30th anniversary of the 3dfx Voodoo Graphics by a few days (Oct 7), but nonetheless, that doesn't mean I won't celebrate it! Here's an excellent article from Club386 where they commemorate it with an interview with co-founder Ross Smith www.club386.com/3dfx-voodoo-...

Leadership in science and engineering is what has historically allowed the UK to "punch above it's weight" on the global stage. Cutting research funding will kill any hope of the future economic growth that both Labour and the Tories espouse. Yet another own-goal. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Chris Lintott @chrislintott.bsky.social

As expected, the Prime Minister's promise to sort out the mess of funding for Jodrell actually meant nothing - it seems the government would like it to be some sort of heritage theme park when you can go and see where we used to do science. ๐Ÿ”ญ

A bit of a full-circle moment for me today. Just ordered my first PCB after a 38 year gap. Amazingly from the same company I used 38 years ago (Newbury Electronics). Glad to see they are still in business. Here's a KiCad rendering of what I ordered.

After the 9/11 attacks, I educated myself of the history behind the creation of the state of Israel, which included the Zionist movement. Historically it was a movement to simply find somewhere peaceful for Jews to live. Caroline's analysis and position is spot on. Zionism is not the issue.

#Quantel repair time! Salvaged two NVRAMs from a dead CPU43 board so they can be used as replacements on CPU board that needs new ones. Quite a job to remove them as the 'Snaphat' ICs are SMD so Quantel made these adaptor boards with very fiddly turned pins. All good to go!

And there it is. The average sea surface anomaly temperature is now as warm as 9 January 2024 - which was the previous record high - and is still rising. New records set every day since the start of June. The oceans are now warmer than they've ever been since records began.
