The whole supervised mall trick or treating thing is legitimately one of the saddest, most fucked up generational changes I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. When I was a kid, we had the horrible “check the candy for drugs! don’t accept anything homemade!” bullshit, but at least we still WENT. We still..

Me too! I evaded the knife, as my variation is mild, but endured a lot of unnecessary suffering out of ignorance. Wild how cool societies are with operating unnecessarily on literal babies and then have huge issues with lifesaving gender-affirming even for adults.

Jess O'Thomson@jessothomson.co.uk

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I am intersex – and did not find out until I was 26! Intersex people are also impacted by the decision in FWS, but this is much less talked about. Intersex people continue to be subjected to non-consensual medical interventions. Intersex rights are human rights.

Australia, like no other country, understands the Power of Swearing. May it fucking save us all from shitfuckery.

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

When a powerful group is determined to always see themselves as victims, you have to ignore them. No amount of pipelines or placating will get right wing Albertans to stop seeing themselves as put-upon whipping boys, so the correct course of action is to just work around them, forever.

There seriously needs to be more work on the effect of *taking* all the measures various outfits demand to deliver treatment. Like I'm being treated for depression and will tomorrow (OMG) finally start my ASD eval. and there's so much

"HEY TELL US A LOT ABOUT YOUR TRAUMAS AND ALSO SUICIDAL THOUGHTS NO HAHA JUST ONLINE OR WITH A NURSE, WE JUST DEMAND YOU TELL US, WE'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE A DIALOGUE" and ya know, it does not make me feel good to dwell on these matters *even more*

The one bit of resistance I am allowed is to insist (I mean COME ON) they should take my PHQ-9 responses *after* they take my blood pressure. OBVIOUSLY

When I say "transphobia is just the antisemitism playbook with some words changed", this is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

Team Paxton appears to have sent out fake mailers to Texas voters impersonating a trans student group and claiming to want to help kids secretly transition. The actual group said they had nothing to do with it, despite the mailers copying their aesthetic, and the address traces to a random UPS box.

I'm so sick of all the "evilest person you know disenchanted with Trump. Switches sides after being personally impacted. Says, "I thought they'd only go after the [insert slurs]" headlines with a bigoted loser staring wistfully out a window. Fuck them & fuck the outlet for covering them. Go to hell.

Currently hosting some bastard thing giving me the classic chills, nausea, hurty skin, 100.7 fever Not really that bad but I have medical crap over the next two days, some of which took 6+ months to set up I am going to make myself a Problem if I have to reschedule the ASD eval

It feels like there was a moment around COVID where a certain corner of the web’s “Talk shit and add nothing” culture became the totality of the internet. It’s like we made this our container for our rage in a time of powerlessness and a lot got hooked on that feeling.

I say it all the time IRL but it bears repeating that the New York Times is and long has been an instrument of evil

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

Something I wrote on (clinically administered) ketamine is getting reposted and I don't know what lesson to take from this Relatedly, ketamine clinicians, you should not let patients have cell phones on them, come on

Been playing Talos Principle II the last week or so. Am I the only one who finds the dialogue mostly really tedious, stoned undergrad-philosophy stuff?

I too have difficulties with pathological demands, which are surprisingly common

count stackula@stackofbears.bsky.social

I don't think I can do that yet. I'm experiencing Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). My Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is acting up. I can't do that just yet. I probably shouldn't try that... not till my Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is taken care of.

I had a conversation w a Lyft driver a few weeks ago that I still think about. I hope this musician, eager to share her art, finds her way to teaching. While the conversation started rocky, Im glad she got an opportunity to talk about her ambitions. Piano teachers are way more valuable than A.I.

Fascism is never permanent, and anyone telling you it is is contributing to the illusion of power that fascists desperately cling to in order to appear invincible & inevitable. Fascism is a weak, self destructive ideology that inevitably eats itself alive or overextends itself until it is devoured.

After months of my medical calls going straight to voicemail, and hours trying to troubleshoot with incompetent (not necessarily dumb but not empowered) support, have filed an FCC complaint against AT&AT. Anyone got experience with those?

Okay naturally now that I put a post into the world about it I found the goddamn setting on my phone from like a year ago that I had on my old number that was buried in spam every single day. On the plus side got myself scheduled for Spravato next week
