The Halo Reach #Sangeheili language is finally fully revealed…by Halo Studios! So pleased. I can’t think of better closure for it. For an end of the era, it’s a wonderful gift to fans. And it turns out I was VERY CLOSE! “Udarusump” (excellent) is right there! www.halowaypoint.com/en/news/cano...

figured out another solid set of sangheili terms in halo reach: - ud'r'us'sump zam'r - ex'c'el'lent wor'c - excellent work - zum'ee ne'ru - ver'y ni'ce - very nice if i do say so myself.

anthropic's exploding lol it went public, we find out the company's debts are like $650 billion dollars. It's valuation was based on like a ton of IOUs. a week ago those IOU holders were selling them off. in china right now, the bubble is very much popping and $450 billion vanished overnight. hm

i really want to say it was reaching undertale’s true pacifist ending. so good. but it was definitely basically the ending of To The Moon. it’s been well over a decade and i still refuse to ever replay it, listen to its soundtrack, or even remotely consider trying its sequels. it broke me.

Anyone else going as Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2 for Halloween this year or just me? 🎃⛰️ The costume has a treasure hunting minigame where you can move Knuckles across the “level” and the radar necklace will blink as you get closer to the hidden emerald in the pockets 💎 I love Halloween!!

unfortunately been exposed to languagejones. youtube needs a “dislike this timestamp” button. i’d be mashing. trying to watch in good faith but he’s yet another prescriptive “achktualy” linguist. the type of person to say you can’t call yourself an artist without ever making a sale.

i hate this disdain for amateurs. amateur work is the outcome of passion for a thing without quantifying its virtues. meaning you can be both amateur and better than any professional or academic. so why do so many linguists proclaim to love language yet hate when anyone actively participates in it?

if your argument can be boiled down to cherry-picking out “weird sounding sentences and phrases” while YOURSELF admitting english is lacking in useful moods and tenses, then you’re more in love with technical precision than artistic freedom. i could say more, but you know the routine, “if i speak”.

Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.

This post is unavailable.

“john, if we ever get married, i want you to be blackened ☺️” “huh?!” “yeah, you know? ☺️” “no…” “they put you in a trailer, drive you around town and everyone throws fish guts on you ☺️” “…and you call this blackened” “it’s very common” “uh maybe fishing towns” “i’m from arbroath!” “exactly!”

i explained, gently, not to repeat that to anyone else. she then said “okay what about hand-fastening?” i’m terrified of this woman.

she just shouted at me for calling this “wrist-fastening” and told me “DELETE AND REPOST” and then when i rolled my eyes she said “i’ll kidnap you myself”. guys this is a genuine call for help.

‘The Cat In The Hat’ has a final runtime of 1 hour and 54 minutes, making it one of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s longest films.

i’ve seen one clip of ace combat 8 and all i thought was: “oh it’s like that one halo reach mission mixed with the writing of a super sonic boss fight.”

i’m forever going to be the guy that told his team he’d be out for an hour because he was taking his girlfriend for a hysterectomy. got loads of DMs saying they hope she’s okay, asking if i needed any time off. i was like nah, it’s not a big deal. she’s had them before. i meant hysteroscopy.

it’s pretty interesting how episodic releases of something changes the function of foreshadowing, compared to foreshadowing in something that’s a complete package. unintentional thread ahead, i just have a lot of thoughts about this topic, apparently!

i’ve seen a lot of different approaches from creators. - vagueposting (“some of you are mistaken!”) - issuing corrections (whether gently or harshly) - praise (“wow! great theories!”) - teasing (trying to asspull an ARG) - no comment (“can you expand on that?” “no”). none feel quite right.

the closest thing to a perfect response was when toby fox highlighted how great it is that we’re living in this moment, coming up with our own theories for deltarune. that, to me, is what foreshadowing does best. whether episodic or one-shots: it inspires creativity. i wish audiences embraced that.

but then there’s episodic releases. if you drop motifs and names regularly, but hold off resolving them, audiences start to believe they’re more important than perhaps intended. this creates amazing series retention, but if you lean too hard (especially clumsily), by the end you might lose face.

i think what’s even more interesting is the “Paul is Dead” thing, where people read into things a little too much. so much so that they might miss the actual, carefully crafted foreshadowing. i’ve no idea how you should even respond to that as a creator when it happens, due to how hostile fans get.

on the one hand, in complete packages, people feel cheated if they “guess” what’s going to happen (foreshadowing did its job). murder mystery for example. audiences often have the goal “if i guess the murderer right, i win the murder mystery!” instead of excitement for the clues and explanation.

if someone insists on explaining rhetorical devices or philosophy terms that seem outwith their wheelhouse, they’re using AI. LLMs insist on using ancient greek, latin, and neoclassical compound terms just to sound smart. the trick is the words just *describe* the thing literally. it’s not deep.

take the word “epizeuxis”; an uncommon rhetorical device. means: “quick repetition of words for emphasis.” literally: “over-joined-being”, or “over-linkage”. like: “feeling great, great, great!” but, wouldn’t you normally say “reiterated”, “repeat for emphasis”? it’s the same thing, in essence!

i’m a huge, huge, HUGE fan of etymology and philology and the way words are written and spoken. but i come at these things from a perspective where i don’t think you need fancy words to sound smart. in my experience, you’re far more likely to reach and teach someone using examples than buzzwords.

see I've tried using AI for coding I'd like to think I'm special and immune to AI addiction, but the reality is probably just that I'm incapable of feeling any kind of attachment or pride in AI generated code I feel like it pollutes the project and displaces my own motivation, I just don't want it

oh my god that must be it. the reason upper management and execs are all obsessed with LLMs and genAI is because it all trained on their own words to sound like THEM. they’ve been made into their own sycophants.

Two University of Leicester students speak out over ‘absurd’ and ‘Orwellian’ decision by the BBC and ITV Studios to edit out pride pins worn on University Challenge

leicester.newsBBC edits out pride pins on University Challenge in ‘Orwellian’ move* * * This story was published by **The Leicester Gazette** : a local, independent newspaper about Leicestershire. 1,000 people have already joined our community. Just use those buttons below to download our app and **sign up for free**. * * * Astrophysics student Samuel Carlier and History student Emmeline Hague-Wright were shocked to find that their LGBTQ+ pride pins had been edited out of their University Challenge appearance earlier this year. The episode, initially scheduled for BBC Two on 24 August, was delayed twice before airing on 7 September 2026. The pins showed the progressive LGBTQ+ pride flag, the bisexual pride flag and a rainbow feather. Speaking to the Leicester Gazette, Sam said: “Living in a liberal democracy and having the state broadcaster tell you ‘we’re editing how you look’, seems very Orwellian.” Sam described the choice to remove the pins before broadcast as “weird” and “absurd”. He said: “[Censoring] that seemed weird. If I had worn a rainbow shirt, would they have censored that? If the idea is to keep things impartial, where is that line in the sand?” A side by-side image of Sam wearing the pin and with it having been digitally removed. Photograph: supplied Sam contacted the BBC to try to understand why his pins had been edited out. He told the Gazette: “The BBC people said they’d ring me, and I chased them, they just said go to the complaints website and file a complaint there, that’s what I did.” Since then, Sam hasn’t had a response from the BBC as to why his pins were removed. After the episode had aired, Sam noted that his shirt ‘melted’ into itself occasionally, as a result of the editing. Photograph: supplied ## Students believe the decision was made following online transphobia Emmeline was also shocked when she found out that the feather pin she wore was due to be removed from the episode she was in. It was understood by Emmeline that there was online transphobia in response to previous episode of University Challenge, and she had been contacted by the BBC, anticipating support from the broadcaster. When the BBC contacted her, instead of an offer of support, she was told her pin was going to be removed. “At first it was mostly confusion,” she said. “I heard that they had received a lot of nastiness online from people and I thought they were going to call me to say ‘we have support services if needed,’ and that wasn't what I got at all.” Instead, Emmeline was notified that the episodes were going to be delayed. “It was out of left field, I was confused for a while,” she said. “This entire delay has been because of a feather and two badges on a teammate that were basically impossible [for viewers] to see.” Emmeline had expressed her frustrations with the repeated delays from the BBC, spanning from mid-July to early-September. She said: “We were announced on the website and then delayed again, and then announced on the website a second time, and delayed even further. Speaking about the removal, she said: “It takes a lot of time” she said. “Making it [the edit] look good would be even more expensive and time-consuming. It seems like drastically a lot of effort.” ## Join the conversation Our app is more than just a way to keep up – it's a gateway to award-winning journalism and the local community. __Want to support our work?__ Click here for membership__.__ ## Wider criticism on LGBTQ+ support The pins Sam wore during the episode. Photograph: supplied According to leading LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall UK, two in five LGBTQ+ students will hide their identities at university for fear of discrimination. Stonewall has reported that more than 36 per cent of trans students have received hostile conduct from university staff due to their gender identity. Reflecting on the digital removal of the pins, Sam spoke about how disheartening the choice was. He said: “There was maybe like a span of eight years where someone could be uncontroversially out in the open queer – now that’s gone again.” he said. The BBC has also been widely criticised for ‘an attack on the LGBTQ+ community’ by pulling its involvement with the popular show, RuPaul's Drag Race. The broadcaster pulled its involvement in September following “significant financial pressures” as the reason for axing their involvement. The criticism follows another recent controversial edit by the BBC. On its hit show, Strictly Come Dancing, a decision was made to edit out ‘Protect the Dolls’ from contestant Bethany Antonia’s T-shirt. It’s a slogan which has become widely used to support the rights of trans women. The BBC defended their decision, saying the changes were made to meet editorial guidelines. It comes as the LGBTQ+ community has faced challenges amid an increasingly less tolerant political climate. ## What the BBC had to say When we asked them about editing out the pins worn by Leicester’s University Challenge team, a BBC spokesperson said: “In line with our editorial guidelines, we advise that no badges, flags, and emblems or symbols are worn or visible during filming, along with clothing with obvious branding or slogans. If such items are not removed for any reason then a decision is made between the programme makers and the BBC regarding any edits to the programme.” The BBC said the delays to the episode were unrelated to the decision to edit out the pins. A spokesperson for ITV Studios said: “University Challenge is an entertainment quiz show and is made in accordance with the BBC Editorial Guidelines requirements for impartiality.” The University of Leicester refused to comment on the matter. * * * **Before you go…** We’ve recently surpassed 1,000 subscribers, which is amazing considering we’re a small team on a shoestring budget.
