this is a Mid-Level Manager Disease and coupled with the power dynamic I find it genuinely threatening

I don't think there's a more madness inducing email writing tic than someone ending every sentence with two periods. why are you doing that.. what are you trying to convey.. stop it..

Staff reporters don’t get to report whatever they want. Newsrooms often have policies for how their reporters can post or operate online. This is pretty standard stuff!

Second, $30K is more than most reporters at tiny newsrooms get when they are laid off, let alone fired! And honestly, so much of his post sounds sort of standard for a small, overwhelmed newsroom trying to figure out how and what to cover with limited staff and resources.

This is actually quite a big deal. The “appropriate journalistic practice” is not to date a source, period. But if you date a source, you should no longer cover that source. But if, for some wildly inappropriate reason, you still cover that source, you disclose in the reporting that you are dating!

I think one of the more important skills you can have in 2026 is knowing when someone is performatively using progressive coded language to argue for something that is fundementally not progressive because they can claim a perceived moral high ground.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Here’s something you should know about minks: They have lungs and airways remarkably similar on a cellular level to those of people. They’ve spread flus and infected humans before with COVID-19. Right now, bird flu is spreading on a Utah farm filled with thousands of them… 🧵

It’s good that New York won but it remains sort of troubling that American cities are in what increasingly looks like an asymmetrical warfare/insurgency situation vis a vis the federal government.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.
