Culmination of many years of work and thought in my little sub area of psych and neuro. Big thanks to @gushennings.bsky.social and @plaing94.bsky.social for helping bring this one home. We hope it provokes thought and improvement in the realm of fear generalization research.

Gus Hennings@gushennings.bsky.social

Excited to share that our review on "The next generation of fear generalization" is now in press in TICS! (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...). Led by @samcooper.bsky.social, we review human and animal neuroscience of fear generalization and offer suggestions for future translational research.

This is also officially my first "independent paper without mentors" and, fittingly, represents both a continuation of and departure from their work. Coming of age moment in TiCS was not on my bingo card for 2026.

Beyond snark: I am always amazed by the popular media's concept that neuroscientists are paragons of brain health.🧠 We study brains, but most of us are legit weirdos living unbalanced lives for the privilege of hyperfocusing on our esoteric interests. Insight, yes. Guiding 🌟... not so much.😂

Megan Hagenauer@mhagenauer.bsky.social

🧠 This absolutely feels like it needs to be a viral thread. I'll start: "I've been a neuroscientist for 20 years. I keep my brain strong and healthy by avoiding..." 1) Hallmark movies 2) Midwestern "salads" 3) A skin care routine 4) Fox news 5) Twitter/X 6) Self-help listicles

Applying for graduate studies in psychology and neuroscience can be challenging and confusing. Frequently, applicants have some support from mentors at their home institutions, but sometimes applicants are looking for additional reassurance, feedback, or perspectives on the processes.

UT is a rewarding place to work + Austin is an amazing place to live (heat aside). The market is tough right now and folks are rightfully concerned. Due to UT’s resources + new lab grants (incl state funding), we expect a stable funding environment for postdocs + opportunities for your own funding.

📩 Interested or have questions? Email: samuel.cooper@austin.utexas.edu 📍 I’ll be at SRP • SPR • ACNP — happy to chat in person about the position. Please share widely with anyone currently/soon to be on the postdoc market, and best of luck to all looking for positions. #PsychSciSky #neuroskyence

My opinion piece in today’s @nytimes.com . I discuss how clinical neglect of medication-related harms has made RFK Jr’s stance on antidepressants appealing to so many and moving the public conversation in a productive direction requires us to remedy this neglect. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/03/o...

I AM NOT AN ACTIVIST. I AM A SCIENTIST. You don’t have to adjust your identity to meet the moment we find ourselves in—you simply need to engage in your civic duty as an expert in a given area by sharing your knowledge with the public and lawmakers. This is part of our duty as scientists.
