I think the thing I love about that version even more is it's not a touch screen - there are infrared emitters/receivers (visible as bumps) arrayed across the edges of the screen, and 'buttons' were placed in specific locations so that 'touching' them broke the beams in an X/Y coordinate.

Up until about 10-15 years ago (when stabilized, remote heads because universally standard) i'd still encounter old Citroen cars that were converted into camera platforms due to their incredibly smooth air suspension system. I remember a push to electrify some of them, but the tech was too new.
