Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!

If there’s one thing I wish I’d done before we got into the spot we’re in now, it’s putting solar panels on my roof. Electricity costs are getting to be ridiculous.

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

No. This is dooming for nothing. Lula *did* end up cruising to re-election, it was called an hour after polls closed. The fact that he managed to pull that off when everything was pointing to a Bolsanaro win is not terrifying, it's inspiring. Stop looking at things through the worst possible lens.

This theory needs to be actively tested.

If women actually began using those creeper glasses, they’d probably use them to record how men behave. Leading to an outright ban of the tech.

I call upon the youth of the world to look at Brazil, to look at Serbia, and recognize that you *can* make a difference. You *can* turn the tide. You gotta show. Up. Get your asses out there and make a difference. Show fascists that they have no power that’s not given to them by fools.

if only there was a lesson to be learned from this…

George Potter 🔶@georgepotter.bsky.social

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

This legitimately makes me want to cry for Marielle. That her mother would not know her well enough to be able to answer this question. Tech “luminaries” have divested themselves of their emotions and empathy. It explains why they think LLMs could be sentient—they themselves are not fully so.

David Gura@davidgura.bsky.social

cool, cool

I’m gonna be president of the solar system someday if you follow this logic

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

This is why AI advertisements have pivoted in the last few months to be aimed at elderly folks. They are an easier target audience for what it does and how it works. To my parents, computers are already mostly magic boxes. It’s not much of a reach.

if you're into some of the worst people you know having a terrible time: airbnb has changed it's rules so owners can no longer require guests to clean up, do dishes, take out bins etc, and as you can expect they are all being super normal about it

The fighting game community is a much more inclusive and welcoming place.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

It is *wacky* that at some point, folks looked at how the Hollywood blockbuster economy works and said “every kind of business should be like this” rather than sustainable business plans and a sense of responsibility to communities. That’s where we are right now.

I have been looking into starting my own business in the wake of my own job loss, and I can tell you from working on the business plan: it’s near-impossible to make it work unless you have insane connections or a partner who will drop the initial investment for you. People still have to live.

Welp, getting a dental insurance claim rejected that could end up costing us something like $4k was not the news I needed on what was starting out to be an OK-ish Friday. [insert Yakov Smirnoff “I *love* this country”]

Previously I have posted about a Nintendo of Europe downloadable premium animated wallpaper that featured a bizarre Toad eating the wallpaper. The files have finally been datamined, allowing the Wallpaper-Eating Toad to be observed in never-before-seen maximum quality.

I’d like to point out that this official account is properly using alt text for their images, which means someone on that social team cares appropriately. I would like to take this moment to thank that person, whoever you are.

Looks like there’s another wave of slow-burn layoffs coming from my previous employer. If you are looking for folks, many of those soon-to-be-ex-Automattic folks will be good pickups for you. It was a place that attracted very smart—and often kind—people.

It’s painful to watch something I helped build for over a decade come crashing down due to poor leadership decisions that are now having real effects on myself and others like me. I am also an early-stage stockholder, and I’m not holding out a lot of hope for that investment at this point.

To any of my colleagues who are still there: Figure out how you’re going to achieve a soft landing for yourself elsewhere, and do it soon. You won’t get much warning when someone decides you’re next on the layoffs list. Ping me in any one of a number of ways if you need help. I’ll do what I can.

I cannot stop thinking about this and I am convinced it now lives rent-free in my head forever; thank you (I guess) @catacalypto.bsky.social Popped in my head *immediately* during a conversation friends were having in Discord re: Unreal blueprints

Looking forward to the Demolition Man-style future, where we conduct daring raids against datacenters to liberate semiconductor parts, which we funnel to an underground that repurposes them for PC gaming builds at a fundamental level.

Going to give my own takeaway on the demise of Bioware, which still makes me very sad. The TLDR: Bioware was not killed suddenly by a private equity acquisition. It was slowly strangled by idiots who didn't understand what made Bioware great - some at EA but also some inside of Bioware leadership

Look. We dreamed of a future with things like C-3PO. Alpha 5. The Enterprise-D computer. Synergy. V.I.C.I.. Tron. K.I.T.T.. The WOPR. Johnny Five. The ship from Flight of the Navigator. Data. Instead, we got destructive and irresponsible probability engines run by carnival barkers.

I have an N7 hoodie - the OG one - that I still wear around the house because it’s the comfiest thing on earth, even though it’s now WAY oversized and the sleeves are fraying. BioWare was a once-great company that created worlds we inhabited, not just experienced.

It’s in frontier model providers’ best interest not to have LLMs give you accurate information on first pass, because then they can get you to spend additional tokens on verification/validation passes. Think about that one for a few.
