She/her. Profile Pic is Saga’s Klara, good mom, and landscape is Arcane’s Ambessa, bad mom. They sit on my shoulders. Yeah, I'm in Alberta: we're working on it.

It's easy to trivialize this situation but I think it's a blatant display of her complete disrespect for our native peoples. It goes along with her previous statements that they should "check themselves" and her refusal to accept judicial decisions in her ongoing disputes with them. She's a bigot.

Example of a word salad (a whole bunch of words tossed together): “Don’t chase the wackado woke, DEI, socialist easy fix for nothing ideas because of emotions getting ahead of logic.” -Shane Getson

Pedro Pascal on supporting transgender people: "I can't think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist."

Didn’t Obama endorse this guy? Like…what is happening NOW?!?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Having lived in BC under one said pseudo-Lib government: This. 👇

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

It would be nice if news headlines/reports stopped saying “BC Conservatives win first majority in a century” when the BC Liberals and Socreds won plenty of majorities and were, you know, conservative.

FWIW, I’m seeing several ridings where you could make a plausible argument that Green vote splitting elected Conservatives, but even taking those into account, you still end up with the Conservatives winning a majority

This government is completely out of step with the actual priorities of Albertans. I can't believe you can fly an Oilers flag, but not a Treaty or Pride flag.

This is a fun thread. Hippos were always my fave at the Calgary Zoo.

c0nc0rdance@c0nc0rdance.bsky.social

Timothy the Hippo (Hippopotamus amphibius) at the San Antonio Zoo demonstrates why he's not in the petting area using a Fall pumpkin. 🦛🎃 The bite force of a hippo is ~2000 psi, producing a force of 8100 Newtons. So why does a GRASS-EATER have jaws stronger than a polar bear, jaguar or lion's?

Hang on to your hats, BC Public Schools. You are about to lose your world-renowned inclusive education program. I’m sorry parents of queer kids. Hug them tight.

Pay attention to Greens provincially and federally. They actually have clear election platforms. That are costed. With new ideas. Y’know, political-like.

Sèafra@woodward.ca

I was super impressed with what I saw of Green leader Emily Lowan. Smart, witty...the actual best costed platform (by the estimate of several BC economists, not me), I'd love to see her on a national stage.

I love your work, @kathleenpetty.bsky.social, but on yesterday’s podcast you let Smith get away with saying her supporters are “concerned about young children being transgendered behind their parents’ backs.” This hateful garbage needs to be challenged, especially when smoothly coming from Premier.

The REPLIES!!!!! 😂😂😂

Call me cynical, but I feel those who "might be at risk of" being influenced to change their vote .. off a motion made by city council .. likely aren't politically engaged enough to read the motion in the first place?! Also: did anyone ELSE read the vote-influencing-mail sent directly by the ABGov?

Yale of Gilead North (Alberta)@ydbelanger.bsky.social

Responses to this op-ed have fallen into two camps: (1) those rightly appalled by how the mayor & 2 councillors behaved (2) those blaming the motion’s author, suggesting that 3 grown men losing their composure was somehow “her fault.” Thanks to the #Lethbridge Herald for printing this work!!

Spent the past couple weeks enjoying S1 &2 of North of North (❤️❤️❤️) and tonight started watching Below with a couple of Newfs in the house. The Canadian content is strong around here. 🇨🇦

I grew up in rural AB. It seems to me that my former peers want those of us who live and work in urban areas to pay for EVERYTHING. Their doctors’ buildings & hospitals, their Costco parking lots, the highways they drive their equipment on, etc. They want to be in charge and us to be their bank.

Rugged Broad@ruggedbroad.bsky.social

70M, 140M, 300M. How much WAS it, exactly? And who is going to PAY for it, Danielle Smith, you rotten bag of air?

“Here’s the short list of your accomplishments: Record government spending. Rising cost of living. The country’s lowest minimum wage. Stressed-out food banks. A decade-long decline in wages. Rising car insurance premiums. Ballooning government debt. A bloated bureaucracy. A struggling health……”

It would be deeply ironic if the election of a BC Conservative government, and the ensuing war with First Nations in that province, scuttled the oil pipeline so many Conservatives in BC claim to support.

One (another) thing that drives me nuts about AB Petroleum Club type cons is that they screamed & yelled about the federal Lib-NDP agreement (they called it a coalition) as undemocratic. Not a peep as their ACTUAL provincial coalition spends all its time & $$ on the COALITION and not on governing.

Here is Alberta's Premier, lying again, deflecting, and refusing to accept responsibility for putting the Canada question on the ballot. It's always 'other people' when things don't go her way. Nothing new, but she is not fit to hold public office. #ableg #abpoli

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Danielle Smith throws Forever Canada under the bus, blaming them for the referendum: "If somebody doesn't want to put a vote forward, then they shouldn't start a petition campaign. If they're going to do that, then they have to understand that there are consequences to it."

Later: Hubs & I went up to the pub for dinner (18 was at the Uni for a social deal; this freedom stuff is fun) & at one end there was a table full of bros with pints & CANADA caps & the other end was a table of broads with dinner & CANADA sweatshirts. Good nationalism is alive on the prairies, y’all

I should have said, that’s what Danielle Smith started with. Also: does anyone else think that Gina Rinehart had Brian Jean by the short and curlies and, in turn, Jean has Smith by her short and curlies? Which is why Smith is willing to throw the water of southern Alberta under her election bus?

Rugged Broad@ruggedbroad.bsky.social

Dear @albertandp.ca, As we veer into a likely bitter, year-long election campaign, please don’t forget about coal and queer kids. That’s what the UCP started with, and those issues CANNOT be forgotten.

To the folks who said all Canadian separatists live in Alberta, Albertans will now take your Canadian apology. (As for the government who made the referendum happen, Albertans are STILL apologizing and working tirelessly to remedy that)
