Canceled carbon tax. Dismantled the climate action secretariat. Supported expansion of LNG. Proposed removing provincial gas taxes that fund services and transit. Proposed spending tax money to keep ICBC cheap for more driving. — No wonder people stayed home.

One of my big frustrations with David Eby is he cancelled a highly effective, partially revenue neutral carbon tax just because the feds did so (Québec didn’t), leaving a big hole in our provincial finances, only to be annihilated in an unnecessary election 1.5 years later. Excellent legacy.

Our knowledge on the importance of indoor air quality has exploded in the past 5 years. You can keep yourself, kids, and coworkers safe from nearly all viruses just by cleaning the air. It also helps significantly with wildfire smoke too. We need regs for air just as we do for clean water.

nationalobserver.comCanada’s air quality reality has changed. Workplace protections haven’tClean air should not be a gamble for Canadian workers. The air Canadians breathe has changed. Workplace protections need to adapt to that reality.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

URGENT: As you prepare to vote in your municipal elections, please don't skirt the SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE elections, even if you don't have children. Nowhere more than any other level, the schools board elections are targeted by far-right, anti-trans/anti-EDI lunatic candidates. Vote to keep them out!

It's short-term, quarter by quarter thinking. Barely suitable as a Governor of a Bank, tweaking interest dials and making press statements, but absolute misalignment with long-term prosperity necessary for a country.

Carney’s lack of an industrial strategy beyond build infrastructure, cut regulation & let the market figure it out, is a problem because we’re in truly transformative times. Bailouts like this show the government is reacting, not planning. It’ll end up costing in the long run, with little in return.

I voted Liberal at the last Federal Election. It was a strategic choice to keep a Conservative MP out. But I also had high hopes that Mark Carney, as a well spoken "adult in the room" with expressed concerns on climate change and 'values' would be good for Canada. It seems I made a mistake...

Funny thought experiment: Tech monopolies have spent about $1 trillion on AI development so far. How good of a chatbot could we have built for $1 trillion by just employing smart people to answer any question people might reasonably ask and collecting all the answers in a big lookup table?

Why do angel and venture capitalists need more funding? Their returns is the success of the companies in which they invest.

Ottawa is launching $1.75b in venture capital support to help Canadian startups grow and remain in Canada. The package includes $1b for venture capital investment—including dedicated funding for life sciences and emerging fund managers—and $750m primarily aimed at later-stage companies.

A smaller gap but a worse future. Current policies, result in warming being kept below 2.8°C by 2100. The most optimistic case, where all NDCs and net-zero targets are achieved keeps warming to 2.1°C. This is a worsening from last year's report, mainly because of the policy roll-backs in the US.
