First they erased a ‘Protect the Dolls’ t-shirt from Strictly Come Dancing. Now they’ve erased Pride badges from University Challenge. The BBC are saying that our visibility as LGBTQ people is a political issue. Meanwhile they’ve commissioned a 2-part series on JK Rowling. Impartial? My arse!

This year’s Irish Hallowe’en turnip, and a handful of those of from years past (they don’t always make it, if they rot before dessicating) #Hallowe’en #Samhain

There’s a deeply messed up line of thinking coming out re the WeConsent ad that “grandparents all over the country mind their grandkids all the time” (true) and thus “we can’t be telling them they have to ask before hugging them” (nonsense). The minister did the same in his own statement.

The entire point of the ad and the campaign is for kids to know that someone loving you doesn’t mean you have to hug them. Someone minding you after school doesn’t mean you have to hug them. Half the government seem to be unclear on these distinctions and their relevance in the life of children.

The only question to ask about the Garda accounts being hacked is why on earth any self-respecting organisation is still using that platform and what it will take for them to stop #Spéirgorm

How to make Ed look even worse with minimal effort

1. Tonight at Gillette Stadium, Zach Bryan, one of the biggest country music artists in the world, wore a Free Palestine shirt onstage. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who pushed Ed Sheeran and his promoter to drop Macklemore from his tour. Bryan isn’t just a major country artist.

An important thing we’ve been practicing for YEARS already with our 3 year old twin boys. “Can I give you a kiss?” And if they say “no” we don’t give them a damn kiss. They now ask us, too, and we practice that it’s okay to be disappointed and also FINE if we ever say no. This is about Cornell.

This is… several strong expletives.

Kerr also says Bazunu was not informed about the squad meeting this morning - ostensibly called to consider the options after Bazunu refused to agree to a players’ statement sketched out last night - and didn’t attend. The squad vote took place without his input or presence.

we really don't talk enough about the utter contempt certain quarters of the southern political and media establishment have for northern nationalists. not in a subtle way, not in an "if you think about it" way, just open disgust and disdain for people they would rather didn't exist

It’s not a conflict, it’s a genocide. Stick that on your armbands.

Gavan Reilly@gavreilly.com

The Ireland players intend to wear black armbands for “all lives lost in the conflict”; the players and FAI will make charity donations (including a portion of the Austria gate revenue next Thursday), and some elements of pre-match formalities will not go ahead

Massive credit to Bazunu and the exact proportionate absolute shade that the FAI deserve for this shambles. What a way to treat your own players.

🚨 Israel v Republic of Ireland game goes ahead, FAI’s David Courell confirms, at delayed press conference in Debrecen Fresh meeting this morning followed one player (goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu) saying they wanted to withdraw from the squad Squad voted after that meeting to establish the view

Somehow the news I needed today

The cast of the Gilded Age made a Christmas album and I might have squealed when I got this press release. A track with Audra, Donna, AND Kelli???

Fully gave Ed Sheeran credit for knowing exactly who Macklemore is and what he was going to say and do. So that’ll be me eating my words and shaking my damn head at the state of him.

If you’re celebrating the death of a child in any context you are the problem. I know comment sections exist only to expose the evils of the world but the way some people are openly spewing hate about children these week - no matter the context - would really make you wonder.

I know advice columns are nonsense but it’s actively harmful to have the paper of record publish advice that a misogynist with rage issues should be approach with acceptance and understanding. Sorry now. Straight into the sea with him.

So often what are called “culture wars” are one set of people saying “please can we live without perpetual persecution” and another saying “no, f*** you” but the press considering the latter group have “legitimate concerns” and must be perpetually platformed

This is a complete distraction. Ireland cannot build a nuclear power plant fast enough to matter. Making a decision to do so would excuse punting on all the wind and solar things it can and must do. This is a lobby project of the tech industry to have something to say when building data centres.

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030. That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.

The combination vaccines all started out as individual vaccines and were combined over time as the *science* showed that it was safe and effective to do so, that the immune load was fine, that it resulted in children being protected earlier and more consistently, etc.

I cannot believe we as a species are still letting single use cups be a thing. We copped on re plastic bags decades ago and then designed new ways to trash the place.

It's not enough to be against AI, you need to be pro art. You need to be a champion of the art you love, you need to share that passion and joy, and do what you can to support the artists who make it, because it's not enough to hate AI, to hate what it's doing to art and media; you gotta love.

Just 6 or 7 years ago, this was a clear-felled Sitka plantation. NONE of these native trees were planted, they all self-seeded. And, in contrast to Sitka, this is a natural ecosystem that WON'T burn, and WILL be fantastic habitat for 1,000s of native species. Nature knows what to do, if we let it.
