Had a really bad dream where the Minister for Justice, in the name of the government, enabled a pile-on of a rape crisis centre because of a campaign to raise awareness of consent for children.

Delighted to see my research get published in the Irish Examiner today, less than a week after presenting at PSAI in Cork! Huge thanks to @deshocks.bsky.social for liking the work and @theresareidy.bsky.social and UCC organisers for a fabulous conference. 👏👏👏 www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

The fine for riding an e-scooter without a hi-viz vest, so that a careless motorist *might* see you (€100), will be higher than the fine for the same motorists if a Garda stops them for driving carelessly (€80). 🤷‍♂️

Love how this week we’ve been told by the UN that keeping global warming at 1.5 degrees is now gone and we’re deciding to delay increasing carbon tax, increasing the price of public transport and paying through the nose to cut excise duties. Love that.

Eoghan Dalton@eoghandalton.bsky.social

Another postponement of the carbon tax increase is “on the table” in Budget talks, Transport and Climate Minister Darragh O’Brien tells @thejournal.ie, calling it a way to ease costs on businesses. He was speaking as he arrived at the haulage sector conference in Killarney

Well it appears that the UK political and media class have decided that tutting loudly is the most appropriate response to a large gang of masked racists. Utterly pathetic.

Europe has a far right problem and the US government plus various tech bros are encouraging it. The centre right insofar as it remains is stuck in paralysis as to what to do, and much of the media likewise, including supposedly "progressive" titles (yes you, staggers).

NEW: French researcher Stephanie Lamy exposes the network of “race realists” who hunted Jason Arday like prey, and the media that fell into his trap. If you think the news cycle has “moved on” from this story, ask yourself why? broligarchy.substack.com/p/the-killin...

This government's attitude that spending money on public services is some kind of terrible loss to the state coffers rather than THEIR ACTUAL JOB is going to tip me over the edge, I stg.

Emmet Ó Briain@emmet.quiddity.ie

Irish Times subheading on that story about increases in public transport fares: "Rising cost of State funding for public services has been a spending concern for some time" 🤔

Given the near-constant Russian attacks on the capital over the past few days, the school decided it was no longer sustainable for the students to go down to the underground shelters whenever an air raid siren rang. Instead, they will have their classes there. https://cnn.it/4x0ric4

Absolute nightmare stuff.

NEW FROM ME: On a hellish third-country removal flight last month, passengers say ICE-contracted guards got drunk, teased and beat them, tied them up, refused to let them use the lavatory. One says he witnessed an ICE agent admit to illegal chain refoulement. prospect.org/2026/08/31/w...

🤯🤯🤯 So an apartment complex sewage is routed into the same place providing drinking water to 40,000 people and there are no consequences? And then if not for the Examiner this wouldn’t even be public information.

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Didn’t know I was drinking sewage for the past few months - and the EPA wouldn’t have known if our reporter Donal O’Keeffe hadn’t started asking questions. Real journalism is worth subscribing for. www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster...

Can’t believe we’ve lost Anthony Staines. Our politics were different. I’d call him my favourite Gaeler. But he was more than that. He was calmness and pragmatism in an ever increasingly mad world. Ireland, mostly unknowingly, owes him a great debt. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam rip.ie/death-notice...

A reminder, again, that Ireland has *chosen* not to take regulatory action against this abuse factory, whose office sits in Fenian Street in Dublin. I think this failure to act in the face of clear knowledge is an unforgivable act.
