It’s confusing that @theatlantic.com described this man as a “a lifelong Democrat who had voted for Trump for the first time in 2024” who when these are some of his very easily findable FB posts:
A Haitian man legally immigrated to Ohio, then was given an ankle monitor bc Trump withdrew his status. He threw himself in front of truck. The trucker, who voted for Trump, is haunted. “Pierre was doing what he was supposed to do. We did not do right by him.” www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

This isn't just some rally where any yokel off the street can walk in. The only people who can get tickets are elected officials, state party officials or donors--in other words, the GOP elite. The GOP is not just a criminal organization, it's a terrorist organization that should be outlawed.

We need to let go of the idea that Trumpism was a radical realignment of American politics and accept the reality that he won 2024 based on a coalition of the 25-30% of Americans who are incorrigible dogshit and a one time influx of low info dummies who were irate about borger and burrito taxi.
Look, are we the laughing stock of the world? Yes. Are we losing a war we should’ve never started? Yes. Is all our food poison now? Yes. Are all the jobs going away? Yes. But the important thing is a blue-haired college student I made up in my head feels bad about memes.
One time at the Library, we had a patron upset he could not eat full meals inside. So he gave us a letter from his "uncle" "Gavin Newsum" asking us to please let his nephew eat in the library. We have that letter framed.
Crazy how I knew exactly who wrote this letter the moment I saw "unhinged arguments put on UBC letterhead...."

Still bummed out about how we almost had a governor who was maniacally focused on climate change and instead we're gonna get a guy whose big policy innovation will probably be home insurance subsidies and gas tax suspensions.
Building California's 1.8M needed homes in walkable, low-VMT neighborhoods could cut statewide driving 4.5% and avoid 8 million tons of climate pollution annually by 2033. Housing location is climate policy. cayimby.org/blog/did-som...

We in academia must really do better in pushing back against this brand of nonsense. Either put up empirics or shut up.
I attended an urban infrastructure panel where a UC Berkeley professor argued that libraries were gentrification. I am really struggling to see how this is different from a Republican position of denying knowledge, tools, and technology to low income, disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Totally biased here since I work at a library... But blowing people's minds that everything we offer is free, never gets old.

I'm going to vote for @tomsteyerhq.bsky.social but if you're not a Republican, you need to either vote for him or Becerra. Keep Republicans mad and unemployed as God intended for them to be.

Family of 4, single earner here. Driving has not increased our expenses, we have an EV, paid off solar(thanks Biden), and I charge free at work. If it were not for that, we would be struggling a lot more right now. But other than Costco rotisserie chicken, we stopped buying meat. This is insane.

Gerrymanders are bad for democracy and converting our House into something like Ireland's assembly would be an exponential improvement. However, the GOP is actively hostile to liberal democracy and are not our partners in governance. As such, the best reforms are just things that hurt them.
It is objectively bad for democracy that both blue and red states are doing extreme gerrymanders. But the only feasible solution — a national ban on partisan gerrymandering — has only been endorsed by one party. And it's not the one complaining about Virginia right now.

The US military, acting in our name, killed nearly 200 children in a war of choice against a nation who had neither attacked us nor was planning to. At a certain point, the world will cease to draw a distinction between Trump and ordinary Americans, just like they once did between Germans and Nazis.
