Our new paper in @plosbiology.org
shows that maintaining leaf flatness requires growth-rate coordination across the width of the leaf blade—not just between the top and bottom surfaces. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

Are you looking for a postdoc exploring the cell biology of development, defining how cells change shape and move? Do you want to develop a research program & teaching skills preparing you for a position at a college or small University? Our new NIH grant will support those goals 1/n Please share
The Cornell Chronicle highlighted our recent Current Biology paper, showing how cell growth and tissue mechanics work together to shape developing sepals—and how these principles could help engineer living materials. news.cornell.edu/stories/2026...
How do plant organs stay smooth—or become wrinkled? 🌱 Our paper in @currentbiology.bsky.social shows how coordinated growth direction and mechanical properties across cell layers determine whether Arabidopsis sepals remain smooth or buckle.

The growth of #plant leaves is highly dynamic and should be coordinated, but how is #leaf flatness preserved? @roederlab.bsky.social &co show that global coordination of growth across the leaf blade is required to maintain flatness in #Arabidopsis@plosbiology.org 🧪 buff.ly/QUMxOcF
This was a particularly special #morpho26 course with this amazing group of scientists (aka team M&Ms)!
Thanks to course organizers @roederlab.bsky.social + @streichan.bsky.social, as well as @kitp-ucsb.bsky.social for providing a fun + creative environment to tackle quantitative bio questions 💭

Katherine Kline is the final student I've had the pleasure of mentoring at @weillinstitute.bsky.social, before starting my journey at @umassamherst.bsky.social. As a BTI-REU intern at @roederlab.bsky.social, Katherine did very impressive work studying miRNA activity in growing organs. Proud mentor!
We’re looking for a new team member (Remote, Half Time, Biological Data Curation Scientist)! If you or someone you know might be interested, please pass on this information. phoenix-bioinformatics.hirehive.com/biological-d...#plantscijobs#arabidopsis#biocuration
Thrilled to see Michelle Heeney (@havingfern.bsky.social) featured in this story about her research journey and her quest to understand the hidden language of plants. 🌱 Excited to see where her curiosity and discoveries lead next! wicmb.cornell.edu/learning-to-...#PlantBiology#Cornell
One of our recent papers describing techniques to identify root barriers to parasitic plant infection. Plus we show that lignin in the cortex can block branched broomrape infection of tomato.

Ever stretch a plastic bag until it wrinkled? Keeping a thin sheet flat while it rapidly expands is surprisingly difficult. So how do growing plant leaves remain flat as they rapidly grow? Check out our new @currentbiology.bsky.social review, How to Grow a Flat Leaf www.cell.com/current-biol...
In this review we synthesize how polarity, growth, mechanics, and cell wall properties are coordinated to generate one of biology's most elegant forms. Congratulations to co-authors @maurazimmermann.bsky.social , Ziyuan Peng, and Yuling Jiao.
NAASC is thrilled to announce the 20206 recipients of the Arabidopsis Community Impact Awards! All three are well-deserving of this honor. We thank the community for submitting the nominations.
