So, he impersonated a government employee while committing all of the other crimes? Sounds like extra charges to me.

Hinderaker, a Trump appointee, is not playing cute here. He is stating his problems upfront and, I think smartly, focusing on Soliman now. Any contempt questions can follow his return which is, rightly, Hinderaker's priority now — even if it does not appear to be the priority of DOJ or DHS.

BREAKING: In a blistering order, Judge Hinderaker details how the Trump admin only has done anything in the case of Ahmed Soliman when ordered to do so. As such, he now orders DOJ to address each of the 11 steps he sees as being needed to bring Soliman back to the U.S.

In the present moment so many people are angry (justifiably angry) about the actions taken by a certain trillionaire, but considering how the ongoing outbreak of Ebola in Congo has now exceeded 10,000 confirmed cases, people should be angrier.

So hard to pick a favorite part of this article. Pretending that sending unsolicited dick pics at 53 was a “youthful indiscretion” is good, but don’t sleep on the argument that his wife forgave him for subjecting other women to unwanted nude photos so everyone else should too

There's no ACIP in the US right now -- and there won't be for the foreseeable future because RFK Jr isn't reconstituting the group. That is already having consequences for new vaccines, which don't have ACIP recommendations. My latest: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

"Young mayor gets caught using police gym for pickup basketball" is the plot of a kids movie where the mayor is the hero

Chris Sommerfeldt@c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

If you’re ever in need of random entertainment, especially whilst on bedrest (yes, again, long story), I highly recommend turning the subtitles on for Bondi Rescue (or really, any Aussie TV show).

The news from Brazil and Serbia are great and show that you don't defeat the far right by copying it or trying to appeal to their supporters You do it by being uncompromising, showing the danger they pose and offering something different to the many crises people suffer from

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

Meanwhile in the UK, if Burnham succeeds in holding off the far right, it will be because he understands retail politics the way only a mayor can: keep people happy in high-visibility ways while offering a broader vision of the destination. So, everyday fixes plus EU free movement.

It's remarkable to me that, even as France, Germany and Spain flirt with the temptation of far-right rule, voters with long-term experience of it in Poland, Hungary and now Serbia have gone to such great efforts to rid themselves of it.

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

This is worded weirdly generically with the lede buried. “all students who wish to compete on girls’ teams would have to undergo genital exams.” Surprise, surprise. Not boys teams then? It’s the usual Handmaid’s Tale anti-women BS portrayed as anti-trans protections.

This is intended to end women's sports entirely. Because who would let their daughters play if a random man (you know it will be a man) gets to examine her naked genitals? Nobody, and that kills Title 9.

This is why we pulled all financial support from @electdemocrats.bsky.social. I don’t CARE if Lacore thinks transphobia is a major value of her constituents. You know what else has been major values of constituents? Racism. Homophobia. Ableism. Bigotry. If you fund one, you might as well fund all.

Wintersong@wintersong.bsky.social

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia. There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.

The @electdemocrats.bsky.social are supposed to be DIFFERENT than the GOP, not the sort of pale carbon copy you get when ink runs low. If you are willing to sacrifice people’s rights to get what you value politically, then you haven’t spent nearly enough time with Martim Niemöller’s poem.

Well this is beyond a bad take. Being gifted doesn’t mean you suddenly know how to teach, it just means you’re working at a different (often grade) level than same age peers. Also? I know this is a bad take because my high school eliminated both sides of special education & ALL students suffered.

Ann Leckie@annleckie.com

"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!
