Our election research team put out an article today explaining how the prediction markets (e.g. Kalshi, Polymarket) — and social media posts featuring visualizations from those platforms — may feed election rumors & conspiracy theories around the U.S. midterms: uwcip.substack.com/p/what-to-kn...

Anytime a new opioid hits the market, I worry the most about people who aren't regular users -- people who use at parties, or who got clean but relapsed. You think you know what you can handle but this changes everything.

10/ Finally, there was a 2nd death related to cychlorphine, a synthetic opioid, in CA. The drug is about 10 times more potent than fentanyl and has been found in counterfeit pills made to look like Xanax, Adderall, and oxycodone. It’s also difficult to detect with routine hospital opioid screens.

Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.

I think this is broadly correct but it’s a symptom not a cause- the reason I’m deeply invested in the democratic choices of e.g. Brazil is that there’s a really big difference between Lula and Bolsonaro! a characteristic of democracy is that it allows for very frequent big direction changes

I say "Americans" but what I mean is certain Americans. I have friends and neighbors from Brazil, for example, and I want to be able to talk to them about their interests

“US vaccine recommendations are in limbo, access to vaccines is suffering, & some of the uncertainty may continue for years following major blows to vaccination by the Trump administration” I have been genuinely surprised at the speed & magnitude of RFK Jr’s dismantling of vaccination in the US 😢

Melody Schreiber@melodyschreiber.com

There's no ACIP in the US right now -- and there won't be for the foreseeable future because RFK Jr isn't reconstituting the group. That is already having consequences for new vaccines, which don't have ACIP recommendations. My latest: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Melody Schreiber reposted

At face, the lack of an ACIP board seems like a DC red tape thing, but this is a sneaky eugenics effort. When vaccines are not recommended by ACIP, they are not covered by insurance or available for free through Medicaid…meaning the most physically and financially vulnerable don’t have access.

To be clear I think it's great that she loved her work enough to go straight back to it and I also think this sort of thing sets an impossible and unhealthy standard

The thing is, an assignment like this helps a parent articulate their child's unique strengths so they can better support them. Cheating on the homework catches up to you eventually.

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.
