They have become what they tolerated - they're now a mouthpiece for the far right. Unfortunately, if this continues, if the BBC say the sky is blue, we'll have to get three other sources to check that.

Apparently a paedophile rapist doesnโ€™t care if someone commits paedophiliac rape.

Q: Amy Acton's stepfather was indicted for rape. Now that you know all that, sir, do you change your mind about the ad? Trump: No. I don't care

Britons should use money we haven't got to buy food the country doesn't grow, store it in homes that don't exist, in spare rooms that got taxed away, so we can survive when reservoirs nobody built run dry because of a climate the govt won't protect. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Sure, we should, if we can (many cannot). But as I keep pointing out, the government itself is making no provision at all. No stockpiles, no back-up, no alternative sources. It's individuating the response to a collective problem, and that never ends well. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

You may have seen reports about the campaign for charities to be more 'transparent' about who funds them. Well it turns out the mysterious new right-wing think tank behind it won't say who funds or runs them, and used fake names for the authors of the report which launched their campaign

My teacher brother has just informed me that his primary school kids now refer to anything shit or old fashioned as "Brexit". Which has made my morning.

A man builds an IED. He sets it off in a busy public street. Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom. It's a miracle nobody is injured. And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."

The BBC's new director general is not a bright man.

The BBC's new director general has described a 50-minute AI-generated episode of Doctor Who as "pretty good," and suggested that the technology now enabled the creation of content "at the standard of a Hollywood studio." https://bit.ly/4rD8rmh

Just begun reading this - received as a birthday present in August. I'm determined to read books faster! I've got a stack of 8-10 fiction and non-fiction glaring at me from various places in the house; lurking in corners, stacks, and in the folds of sofas.

โ€˜We had never read anything quite like it. It is, in many ways, a dark book but it is a joy to readโ€™ We're delighted to announce Flesh by David Szalay as the winner of the #BookerPrize2025.

Finished in 6 days. An absolute page turner. But I don't agree w/ The Guardian's take on our protagonist's "passivity". Far from being buffeted by life - aside from childhood trauma - all Istvรกn's undoing is his own. Like a Thomas Hardy character, we see his choices, ambition & desires seal his fate

Just like her recent column, willing the 'good feeling' to end with Burnham. Love BBC entertainment, but its News is dead.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.
