Hello Bluesky! I'm a Liverpool-based academic w/interests in neurodiversity, representations of disability, genre fiction, 20th/21st C lit and more. I identify as a Disability Studies scholar, literature scholar or medical humanities scholar depending on the time of day...

Lovely to read this and reminded of happy days researching in the Eaton collection (20+ years ago...seems like yesterday) @dracopoullos.bsky.social

I created this photo using recent research so it relaxes your brain when you pause to look at the details. As I'm sometimes too unwell to post here (not good mental health due to PMDD & recovering from a breakdownA) it would help so much if you could maybe RT my photo. Many thanks 🌿

Great to see one of our Flexible Fund projects getting wider notice on an important topic. There’s a very useful toolkit with three videos to use in upskilling support staff on the topic.

Realised I haven't actually said on here yet: my new project @ljmuofficial.bsky.social is on research culture and 'EDI'. How do research enablers (staff who manage, facilitate, or develop the research of others) engage with EDI in their practice? What kinds of resources would they find useful?

My version of this is daydreaming about being a side character in an Agatha Christie novel, who's at the seaside for a rest cure. No kids and no responsibilities, just wafting about in glamorous 1920s daywear, having a flirtation with the tennis coach, and possibly discovering a body or two.

Read nearly 5 short horror story collections on holiday and a sizeable number of the stories begin with someone being advised to go on a 3 month break to the coast for nervous exhaustion or whatever and wtf happened to those doctors and how do we get them back?

What's that you say? A UK study aimed at proving that ADHD and autism are over-diagnosed actually found that we are still under-diagnosing both, and lack access to assessments remains a huge barrier to support? What a shocking and unexpected conclusion! www.politicsuk.com/p/fonagy-rev...

No easy answers obviously. I think a lot about how this kind of work tends to be done/led by by committed individuals (often w/lived experience), and how we can push towards a 'whole university' approach.

In an EDI-focused work event today and discussion circled round to some of the Big Questions of equity-focused work in institutions: How to engage people who are uninterested in 'EDI', or don't think it's relevant to them? What about those hostile to the idea of 'EDI', especially in current climate?

Repeat after me: 1) PIP isn't an out of work benefit. It is a benefit paid to disabled people to pay for the extra costs of living with a disability. 2) Some PIP claimants work. Some PIP claimants will never able to work at all. 3) Impoverishing people doesn't get them closer to employment

Depressing. There's often complex or emotionally difficult identity stuff to work through after getting diagnosed - the last thing we need is scepticism making it harder. Also, NOT WHAT THE REPORT SAID.
