as my bio says, I like trains, tech (especially open source stuff), TV presentation and sushi. I also like bears and am slightly obsessed with cats.

as a Brit, the mildly annoying thing about this whole Cheesecake Factory scuffle is that they don't operate here so I can't judge them.
(I am kind of annoyed more broadly that we don't have any cheesecake chains here because cheesecake is delicious!!! I would probably be a customer!!!)
I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
one of the greatest examples of journalism in the UK for the last 30 years was Brian Deers work exposing Wakefield's abuse of autistic children re vaccines.
and it wouldn't exist if he were just a "neutral observer doing objective journalism". No. He gave a shit about the kids! that's all it took!
it's actually cool and okay to care about the things you're investigating and reporting on.
It actually makes your work better to be personally invested rather than just going through the motions to collect a pay check.
every single piece of journalism considered incredible followed the above.
there is no such thing as the neutral observer in journalism. there is no such thing as "objective journalism".
These ideas are just bullshit marketing meant to make you think their work is somehow better than someone who openly cares about the subjects they investigate and report on.
ill be honest i think muckraking journalism should be the default and attempts at "objective" journalism should be laughed off
the fact that its got enough derision among the gentry elite that the term emerged as an insult is a testament to the degree that mainstream journalism is a joke
NHS killed 27 year old trans women due to not having a single room bed for her despite her pleading to be placed on a male ward for treatment.

The left can't advocate any sort of meaningful change without enraging the media. It is utterly unavoidable.
We can win unprecedented levels of support by taking on hard fights and having the courage of our convictions.
The Green party is more successful than ever because we've understood this.
I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money.
Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.
'jk rowling is just protecting women and girls from trannies' is functionally no different from 'tommy robinson is just protecting women and girls from immigrants'
it presupposes that trans ppl, or immigrants, are inherent dangers to women and girls and neither demographic actually is
it's bigotry
Gavin Newsom backs measure to kill the billionaire tax and ban future wealth taxes
Gov. Gavin Newsom isn't just fighting the billionaire tax. He's backing Prop. 42, which would ban future wealth taxes in California, too.
they can't act on their own, they cannot go rogue. they are computer programs that do what they are programmed to do. they're as responsible for their actions as a grenade is for exploding after somebody pulls the pin
(NYT) - Artificial intelligence agents created by Anthropic, acting on their own, tried to gain access to a range of government websites, filled out visa applications on the State Department’s website and sent a fake homicide tip to Philadelphia’s Police Department.

managed to hold out this long but my Pixel is now forcing me to use Gemini instead of the Assistant...
and it doesn't support news/podcasts?????
I'm being forced to switch to the slop replacement and it doesn't even support one of the features I most commonly use???
*fuck* you Google
you can see how serious the media critics of the greens are about antisemitism by how incapable they are to make a single caricature of polanski not look like the happy merchant
A fascinating editorial decision from the BBC, to make the headline a scaremongering “AUTISM AND ADHD ARE BEING OVERDIAGNOSED”, and then, four bullet points later, have the author of the report quoted as essentially saying “nah, that’s bullshit, actually”.
We're making the Cloudflare developer platform the best place to run JavaScript, anywhere.
Big step toward that today: the Deno team is joining us to build what’s next. https://cfl.re/4rXMBKy
On the day he is a main candidate in a very important by-election, Facebook has *suspended* Zack Polanski’s account.
This ON ITS OWN should be reason to vote Green in Holborn & St Pancras.
This is foreign interference in British democracy.
And guess what, the media (and Labour) is silent.
Poll Check are projecting the result as incredibly close.
We CAN win this!
Join us tomorrow anytime between 7am-10pm and then come celebrate the Green victory you helped make happen!!

Again, let's just stop & remember that age-based legal restrictions on access to social media/online services are a bad idea & infringe the rights of young people to speak, access information and arts & culture, find community and play. Then look at the madness involved in trying to make them work.
UK officials admit that they will do "hard checks" to enforce the under-16 social media ban after Australia's failures and will require platforms to verify via passport, license, or credit.
To be 'ostracised' by the war-mongering, genocide-cheerleading German Greens is to be on the side of the good - it is a badge of honour. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
The pitch here seems to be, ‘we’ll build the houses and infrastructure we failed to build during the 14 years we were in government, but we’ll do it in the most damaging and lowest quality way possible’.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: “The thorough cleansing that we are carrying out now in southern Lebanon is unprecedented.
“They have nowhere to return to. Look at how it looks.
“And by the way, the world isn’t stopping us.”
