It's frustrating that major web browsers still don't support DANE/TLSA, after over a decade! With DNSSEC and TLSA 1 1 1, domains could require both a valid CA-issued certificate AND a matching pubkey hash. It would stop rogue-CA certs in browsers that support it, without reducing security for others

๐Ÿšจ Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

SkyFeed hosts 91,000 custom feeds for 865 โ‚ฌ a month, just shy of 1 cent per feed ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿฆœ The SkyFeed Pro sub now covers 11% of that and makes feeds you published refresh faster. You don't have to build feeds to subscribe, getting a sub for 5 โ‚ฌ/month also helps keep the ones you read running!

If you are subscribed to SkyFeed Pro (skyfeed.eu), your published SkyFeed feeds now refresh more often! New posts should usually appear in 30 to 90 seconds and I'm working on making that significantly faster soon, with most of the performance improvements also coming to all free feeds.

I need to know: which of these colors feel the most like they could contain a set of bsky posts? 1. yellow-ish 2. pink 3. light blue 4. orange 5. "rosewater"

this has been a bit painful, but now skyfeed.app is no longer on a 2 year old flutter version :) I also added a few performance improvements, so it should feel better to use. However, Flutter no longer supports the HTML renderer on web, so if somethings broken on your device pls let me know

I would like to set up a community space/chat for SkyFeed, which platforms/protocols would you recommend? the obvious pick here is Discord, but not sure if that really fits the whole "privacy-friendly and decentralized" vibe. I would also consider trying roomy, but not sure how polished it is yet?

Hey everyone, I would like to apologize for the unreliable SkyFeed experience over the past few days. It's part of the not quite yet finished process of migrating feeds to the new infra, and I'm trying my best to get it done and finally have reliable feeds again! (incl. all the personalized ones)

Hey, I've been switching a lot of feeds over to the new infra over the past few hours, if you still notice any issues in one of your (or someone elses) skyfeed feeds right NOW, in this moment, please reply here with a link to it. I'll take a look and fix them if needed!

After more than a year of re-building the entire SkyFeed architecture, the first few SkyFeed feeds are now finally being served by it! ๐ŸŽ‰ All feeds are being validated automatically on each request and if they are proven to work reliably, that specific feed is routed to the new server.

Oh yeah for uhhm a few minutes I had the bunny cdn cache not vary by query params, which resulted in everyone getting the same (cached) feed for a few seconds each ๐Ÿ˜…

This new setup should result in significantly more reliable user experience across all feeds, and enables me to finally resume work on some long-promised features and updates! If you notice any issues during the cutover phase, please ping me or send me a DM.

SkyFeed feeds are currently down due to a networking issue over at my @fly.io cache layer. Not sure yet if it's just my fault for not configuring something correctly or if they are having issues, I'm currently doing my best to find the issue and fix it quickly!

This was a weird one, my redis cache container was migrated to a new host I guess, but its internal v6 ip could not be reached from the other skyfeed containers. re-deploying the cache container (resulting in a new IP) fixed it

feeds should be coming back up again, sorry for the downtime. I'm in the process of migrating over to the new and more reliable feed architecture I've been working on for a long time now, and I did not setup proper monitoring in this stage because I expected the full migration to continue faster...

Whoops, the skyfeed.xyz did:web (used for OnlyPosts and Discover) was broken because caddy could not renew the TLS cert due to the disk being full. Sorry about that, fixed now!

Switched to the new feed service url! (new url is just a proxy to the old service for now, but it's the first step) Let me know in this thread if you notice any NEW (not before seen) issues or degradations in your feeds while I continue with the next steps :)

Hey SkyFeed users, I will switch the skyfeed service url to a new backend later today. I expect this to go smoothly, but if not feeds might go down for a short period of time. This is the first step of migrating to the new architecture, which will be significantly more reliable and fix a lot of bugs

I'm currently in the final refinements to my optimized atproto indexer for skyfeed and just learned that there is no efficient way to detect deletions with incremental repo sync :( does anyone know a good solution to this issue?

Hi! SkyFeed is struggling and I need to find a solution. If you don't know SkyFeed, it's a service I built 2 years ago, enabling anyone to build and publish feeds using a visual block-based editor. SkyFeed is still hosting the most feeds on Bluesky, but that comes at a cost [1/X]

For now, the plan would be to launch with just one feature: Currently, feeds are cached for up to 5 minutes, depending on server load. If you pay, all feeds you publish would update in real-time and feeds used by paid users would also update more frequently, keeping their contents fresh for everyone

My current timeline is getting this ready in 1-2 months, alongside the migration of most existing feeds to the new architecture To stay up-to-date you can follow me and the @skyfeed.app account I'm curious what you think, so please feel to reply here with ideas and feedback or drop me a message :)

However, even the new engine doesn't change the fact that SkyFeed needs revenue. First of all, I am committed to *never* adding ads, because they go against the spirit of algorithmic choice. Also, the entire backend will continue to be fully open-source and all existing features will remain free.

So the only solution that feels fair to me is adding an optional SkyFeed Pro subscription which would support the project and add new resource-intensive features for advanced feed builders, like unlimited history or personalized feeds. I'm still open to suggestions, so please tell me what you think!

The first component I started to rewrite was the indexer, but I quickly realized the storage and query layers also needed a ground-up rebuild. This took far longer than expected and was the main reason for not improving the SkyFeed app or adding support for new features like video

The good news: After 4 iterations, the new fully Rust-based architecture is almost ready. The historical backfill is running, and experiments with the new query engine have been very promising. I am confident that the new engine will deliver and am excited about the amazing new feeds it will enable!

Donations mostly covered costs at the end of 2024, but expenses skyrocketed as I scaled everything to keep up with Bluesky growing quickly. While fighting the fires popping up in the infrastructure, I couldn't really focus on releasing new features, fix bugs or implement long-promised improvements

It felt wrong to ask for money before delivering the level of service I expect. But being a solo developer and SkyFeed not my main job made that near-impossible. I also realized that the current architecture struggled to keep up, let alone enable new resource-intensive features I promised long ago.

Let's get straight to the point: Renting servers for hosting all 75k+ SkyFeed feeds for millions of users daily costs me ~1094 EUR/month SkyFeed is 100% free, so the only income is my GitHub Sponsors (github.com/redsolver) with ~191 EUR/month The math does not quite work out here.
