Brexit was part of the same op that gave the US Trump. It was a crazy idea. They played on the hate for Polish plumbers, the fear of Muslim men, and the longing for a past when white ppl ruled over “exotic” lands full of darker skinned people who cheerfully did menial labor. Sure, they dressed /1

With 76% of the British public agreeing that Britain is more divided right now than at the time of the Brexit referendum, the case for rebuilding our relationship has never been more compelling. 4/ complaining about illegal immigrants taking all the jobs but also taking advantage of our services and welfare while polluting the gene pool. The US hasn’t had welfare since 1996, and no one here illegally can qualify for the benefits we do still have, which are paltry and mostly used by poor /4

5/ white working families including in the military. That doesn’t even begin to take into account the fact that no one here illegally chooses to go to the USG for anything. They are staying under the radar. They’re going to work.

/2 it up with a big red bus saying x millions of pounds “could” go to the NHS vs going to the EU, and that Britain would finally be free of the ridiculous restrictions the EU put on British bananas. That was code for “the EU causes the UK to take in foreigners” along with the idea that the only /2

3/ thing preventing the British Empire from running the world was the EU. People will say it’s about money and to that I say maybe, secondarily, or maybe for some. But it’s just like the “economic anxiety” in the US felt by white ppl driving $75,000 trucks to their Trump flag festooned boats /3

Let’s put “The Ugly American” stereotype aside for a moment. I’m aware there’s always been a kind of anti-Americanism outside of the US. It’s usually more like a teasing for our provincialism and US centrism. It’s colored by the unfamiliarity with the size of country keeping a lot of us in here. 1/

16/ along with scientific helplessness to combat it at first. Prior to that we had white people freaking out about the ascendancy of non-white people in the world. These are primal shocks. We should be using brains instead of guts to make decisions. We’re not, that’s human. But now we need to /16

17/ recognize this potentially civilization ending error, and combat it. Let’s stick together. It’s the only way we get through this. Trump doesn’t get a second term without the pandemic. But that’s what happened. I hope you’ll forgive us. The consequences of not doing so aren’t better.

14/ Putin, his buddy or boss Semion, and other people with extremely bad intentions. (* They’re just living here to make money and amass power.) We shouldn’t help them. And you should avoid giving them power in your own governments, no matter how much they try to scare you into it. I believe/14

15/ every human society contains that 33% that’s normally authoritarian loving. Then there’s the bigger % which could become Trumpy under the right conditions. The surprising existential fear of the pandemic was one of them, and it was worldwide. Modern ppl weren’t familiar with so much death /15

12/ anything because we’re America. I’m saying you forgave, we all forgave, Germany after the Holocaust to provide the perspective you often accuse us of not having. The long game. The worldly game. The historical game. A couple of gangster governments are using right wing apparatuses to break us/12

13/ up. They’ve got nefarious aims that converged just like the Trump campaign’s aims converged with the Russian govt’s aims. Neither did you, by the looks of it, or you wouldn’t be so upset and feel so betrayed. I don’t think it’s a great idea to /10

11/ angrily abandon us right now, and even a worse idea to say you’ll never trust us or be friends again. I point out more and more often now that the whole world forgave Germany after the Holocaust. That draws a strong reaction and that’s ok. I’m not saying we should be able to get away with /11

8/ the plan is discouraging. Lots of people don’t believe Trump could be as bad as Hitler. I’m not one of them but he hasn’t done that yet. People are waking up and mobilizing against him. The ballot box still works and should always be first. I’m sure some of you are thinking that in a gun /8

4/ and forces have been taking advantage of that all over. They’ve taken advantage of fear of migration. It’s just more evident here because we’re big on the stage AND we’re a country of immigrants so it hits a little harder to see the rougher side of the coming to America story. They’re using /4

2/ It’s easier to travel to NJ from PA than PA to Italy (for ex.) A lot of us came from there in the first place which plays into that among other factors including our ridiculous lack of vacation and health insurance. We seem blind to others when others know so much about us. That’s another form/2

3/ of cultural blindness, btw. But sure, we’re your uncultured cousins. Ok. Dangerously, it seems like there’s an even worse blindness outside of the US. It’s that what’s happening here is happening everywhere. You think Brexit was a singular phenomenon? The far right has been rising everywhere /3

We said not another penny for ICE, and now they aren’t getting a cent more because our members spoke out. Just a month ago, more ICE funding looked like a done deal. But pressure stopped it and pushed out Kristi Noem. ✊ People power works. Now we keep fighting for real ICE reforms.

Hello! To anyone wondering about whether it’s worth it to vote, I give you this result. We wouldn’t be where we are without apathy. They want to keep you from voting any way they can. Resist! Vote while you can, it still works.

This is a useful idea to change the channel from Fox to something else in public areas.

I used to have a Samsung phone and there was a built in remote that I could use to change Samsung tvs if they hadn't turned off that feature. Very useful in public spaces.

Abolish ICE and fire all agents is the moderate position.

Councilor Mitch Green@councilorgreen.bsky.social

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

To Denmark: I am an American who will always consider you a close cousin. I know you spilled blood for us after 9/11 wo hesitation. Trump sickens most of us more than he sickens you. Please know most of us do not feel as he does. While I won’t excuse them, even many who voted for him are disgusted.

3/ It’s a good question. If Bruce was an embodiment of a type of ethos, a symbol to them of being in the right, on the side of good, what does it say that he unequivocally rebukes them? They will recoil and knee jerk that Bruce never represented them, that he’s never been what I’m saying he is. /3

4/ Bruce is just another rich liberal who got away from being one of the little people, the Forgotten Man, a long time ago, and they never really liked him anyway. He’s not even a good musician or singer! Had a couple good hits a long time ago, hasn’t been great since. But in reality, they’re /4
