Mark Lainez set up a repo tracking all the odd devices people have put Nerves on in the past and recently. This is a delightful thing to read through. There are some real bangers in there.

A very sweet post about Goatmire from Davide Bettio. Of course focusing on the badge as AtomVM is his whole deal. And the badge was awesome!

🎶 Another one bites the dust 🎶 #nerves
This thing has root access, just like before. But this time it's me, and not the manufacturer. And not over an unencrypted TCP connection that pipes its input straight into sudo.
I am absolutely over the moon about this 😁
The #Goatmire badge (running #AtomVM) controlling the Goatmire balance bot (running #Nerves and #BeamBots, rendering display with #Emerge) via #Erlang distribution
Thanks @lawik.bsky.social for the display PR 🫶
⚠️ We believe that there is an ongoing campaign targeting owners of popular crates and rust-lang team members that is attempting to compromise devices and accounts in order to use them to publish malware.
See our blog post for details: blog.rust-lang.org/2026/09/17/t...
Preparations are in full swing. Hardware, firmware, software, humans, robots. Yesterday I had conversations with catering, the after party venue. We've been processing workshop waitlists.
It will be glorious. schedule.txt, schedule.json, are now available as well.

RuboCop 1.91 is out and it's the most interesting release in quite a while. Try some of the new features like `--diff`, `--changed` and `--preview` and read all about the improvements here github.com/rubocop/rubo...#Ruby
Whenever someone asks me if they should use Erlang (or Elixir) for their backends, my immediate thought is always "of course, what else?". I don't always give that answer, but I do believe that from a strictly technical point of view, it is the correct one. Perhaps more than ever in the vibe era.
325 #kakapo! The chicks from this year's record breeding season are now juveniles and so have been added to the population. In 1995 there were just 51 kākāpō left. Recovery of critically endangered species _is_ possible with sustained effort. #kakapo2026#conservation#parrots
Nerves is a high-level framework for smart devices. It makes IoT easy for humans. Apparently agents like it too?

For those who remember famous Task Manager for Windows and its author Dave W Plummer - he now made native task manager for Windows, MacOS and Linux - tmog.org. Awesome!
This latest @github.com outage is fostering some interesting discussion of code hosting alternatives like @tangled.org on HN.

Seems like there is lots of interest in alternatives, but no strong concensus on what that should be. Time for the community to rally?
Happy August! This months meetup is tonight, with a presentation by Peter Ullrich on security and Nerves. Join us for a great presentation and discussion!
nervesmeetup.eu/meetup/peter...
Today's meetup is not Nerves-specific. We have Peter Ullrich talking through his work finding and fixing security issues across the ecosystem.
The meetup is nice and friendly. Please feel very free to join us. The social at the end is really delightful.

Next time you're upgrading Phoenix and you're using AI assistance, try pointing it to elixirstream.dev/gendiff/api and tell me how it goes.

It took 7 years of self-funded work, but Sonic Pi is finally at a place I'm happy with.
It's even easier than beginners and even more powerful for pro users - and just way more polished in every way.
It's also a (friendly) technical trojan horse for SuperSonic.

Not sure I even shared this blog post. How you get nice Erlang tracing when you didn't prepare by adding tracing tools.

Nerves 1.15 released. The toasty new feature is nicer, fast builds on MacOS using the new Apple Containers. Contribution by tomw.
His measurements indicate it to be about as fast as the prior UTM approach which was way faster than the Docker ever was.

Since I don't know how this library will evolve I rebranded from circuits (established, trusted, serious) to bodge (pragmatic, non-beautiful, inelegant).

It's already July 😱
That means we're just one week away from our next meetup! Come join us next Wednesday at 19h CET for a presentation by Herman verschooten on his efforts to build a Nerves-based router using the OpenWRT One hardware!

The premiere way to update your Nerves devices is sponsoring your NervesConf EU.
You can use it for your hobby project and when you use it for a commercial project you fund the ongoing maintenance and development of it all.

James Harton is doing something interesting. NBPR is a tool for removing a lot of the annoying bits of customizing a Nerves system. Namely buildroot and kernel builds.
